Lo!

Well I'll start a sucession game but with some different characteristics:

- Nation will be Arabia, and we'll play on an Europe map, so we're starting on modern-day Morocco. This is because I want an "invasion" feeling, by conquering the Iberian peninsula, France, and beyond.

- Governments WILL influence the game! The rules for government types are:

Despotism: Dinasty time 20 turns. No special rules: you are the Supreme Caliph and can do anything you want.
Monarchy: Dinasty time 20 turns. No special rules too, you're still the powerful Caliph.
Feudalism: Dinasty time 20 turns. SPECIAL RULE: If you are going to war, you HAVE to ask permission to the next person in queue for playing after you. That is to simulate the need for the local warlords approval of war. So, you can only declare war if the next allows you to do it. Else, you CAN'T. Of course there's nothing you can do if other nation declares war on you.
Republic: Dinasty time 10 turns. No special rules, as you are a President voted by a Council of Islamic Leaders and you're authorized to do anything.
Democracy: Dinasty time 10 turns in Medieval and Industrial times, 5 turns in Modern times. SPECIAL RULE: If you are going to war, you HAVE to make get the approval in an ellection. This can be made by a forum poll, an e-mail poll or other ways. You need a minimum of 3 votes out of 5 to declare war, else you can't do it.
Communism: Dinasty time 15 turns. You are the Prime-Minister of People's Republic of Arabian States, and you are authorized to anything, so you there's no special rule.
Fascism: Dinasty time 15 turns. SPECIAL RULE: You are the Supreme Emir, and in order to keep your authocratic power you MUST engage a war. You can turn to fascism after declaring a war or before you do it, but you must be in a war at the end of your dinasty, before you send the turn to me.

- Changing the Government: you can make a revolution anytime you want, but you MUST end your dinasty after you declare it. For example, you are playing as a Monarchy and wants to change for Communism. You make a revolution, save the game and send it back to me, no matter how many turns you have left for your dinasty. You are being overthrown! The next player is then going to play the Anarchy period AND his dinasty time. In the example, he's going to play the anarchic period PLUS the 15 turns that Communism allows him to play. The previous player can play again after the other person played.

- Regent Level.

- Try to roleplay. Story-makers will be priorized in the queue for playing. Use arabian names of your king/dinasty name. These can be found here. Try to be as original as possible.

- I'm going to be the first Caliph. If you want to play, post your interest and mail address in the thread. You then play your dinasty depending on your government system (as explained before) and e-mail next to ME. I'll e-mail to the next player then.

- Failure to obey these rules will result in the 'rebel' having his dinasty cancelled.

OK count me in it could be a laugh. Of course my dynasty will be the best, or at least if nothing else it will be spelled correctly :)

After wandering the lands for years, the mighty Arabs, under the command of Caliph Al'Bikhr (The First One) have settled in a godly place and named it Mecca.

We started scouting the land and discovered we're in the northern part of a huge continent. We also discovered the misteries of bronze working.

Later, we created Medina. Invasion is on its way...

----

On to Hawklord, who will play for 20 turns unless he makes a revolution, and e-mail it back to me.

Let's see if the game works...

Caliph Bikr's (First Born) reign has been a one of peace and prosperity. Though new inventions have brought good and bad news. Arrable land over the water to the North, but signs of a foreign people in residence. We do not know how they will act when we make contact. Maybe the long period of peace is coming to an end. Our beloved old Caliph has few days left in the world and has confided in me that he will be glad to pass over the reigns to his son. "Perhaps we will need a new leader more versed in the arts of war than me" he said. "It is time I retired to the summer palace, this is a world for younger men than I"

2850BC - (3)
Our wise men have discovered a way of keeping words on clay tablets, they have named this discovery Alphabet. What will happen when all of the words have been captured, shall men be struck dumb?
2630BC (8)
Our wise men have tied some trees together and are off floating along the coast. One wonders why they are seen as wise men sometimes.
They call this craft a Curragh. Could they not have thought of a more Arabic sounding name?
2390BC (14)
New land to the North found. So these new fangled boats have some uses after all.
2350BC (15)
Damascus founded. Our civilisation is flourishing.
2190BC (19)
We are not alone. A light blue border is spotted on the new land mass. No contact with the people yet though.
2150BC (20)
Caliph Bikr retires to the summer palace and dies peacefully in his sleep.

i might be interested, even though i am playing an arab empire right now :D
what version is it? C3C1.22?
if so, PM me, and i'll join up.
otherwise i'll just lurk in the shadows, waiting for Charlamagne to step up :king:

Let me join in. This sounds like fun.

We're playing on C3C version 1.22

Ok, so soul_warrior will be the next Prince-Caliph.

Hawklord, can you send him the save? I'll do it tonight if you can't.

Jussi, you're on the list.

Rik, come on, join the Empire! :)

Well as long as the save is returned to me after you play it, it's ok.

Really, it's my first SG and I want to make sure everything is doing fine, all the rules are being obbey'd, etc.

Plus I'm making a Dinasty History so we can see at the end of the game which dinasty was the most remarking, etc.

EDIT: AND I'm managing the queue so it'll have to come back to me anyway.

it is very early in the morning for prince Abu to think. too early. last night he and his friend prince Far-i, a prince from a lesser city - Medina, went out hunting in the hills. little did they know how much that morning would change thier life. they began but running west for a few miles, thinking, like all growing lads, that nothing nature could throw at them could destroy them. and they are right ofcource, for they are ARABS!!.
after a few days of enjoying them selves, visiting Far-I's father, and enjoying themselves, they stumbled upon a wonder.
on the hills not that far from medina lay a small plateau, with strange vines growing red fruit. they tasted it, and saw it was good. they started running back home so they could share thier new find with the other nobles, for this is surely a gift from Allah, to be enjoyed by the sheiks and princes. (we find wines on our land shelf)

upon arriving back home the two princes hear that no news have yet arrived from thier friend Mahmud. Mahmud was (or it was hoped, still is) a dashing young prince, with a love for the sea, for the arabs were a sea going people. he was the captain of the first AL KARAGHH, a vessel that was designed to traverse the waves and being back wealth of food from the mighty sea. Abu, acting like the loyal friend he was, atonce demanded his father let him mount a rescue operation, and another AL KARAGHH was built in Mecca, blessed by the high priest (2150 bc).
the journey began as soon as it was complete. and the two brave princes set sail, and based on sightings of Mahmud, went west.
meanwhile in medina there was much unrest. the people wanted more out of life than hard labour. some even talked openly about going "out west" where there are treasures beyond belief. and thus, in 2070 the city of medina has grown beyond its own capacity and a few breave souls went west in search of adventuire (settler heads west), Far-I's father, having also heard of the riches of the west thought to himself " what can i gain from those wonderful vines? how can i use them to benefit me and my own?" and he came up with the answer - i would build a huge building, where i could store all of the vines, and sell them to the poor of the towmn. that way he would get richer, and the poor will not want to leave the city so often.
hearning about the initiative of Far-I, Bakir thought "i cant be out done by one of my own skeiks, now can i? i will built an even bigger building!! but what should i build? our lands, on must be honest with one self, are pitifully small. a project like Ibrahim's would be wasteful. and another grand boat was too complex to build right now. waht i want is somrething for the entire world to envy me for, to remember me for" and reasoning that one is only remebered by his sons, and Mahmud still being at sea, he decided to build a huge statue of Mahmud right on the shore, near that little bay where his left, and light a permanent fire through his eyes, thus he could find his way back home (for he couldnt admit it but he missed his son dearly) 2030 srat colosus

afew years pass and a small sail is spotted for the top of the building in mecca, where Kabir has placed a permanent scout to see when his son woulfd return. Kabir, running 3 stairs at a time to the dock, saw a tiny, ragged canue, with but a single person inside. dreading what he would find out, he slowed down, but after afew moment realised it was Abu, his other son, that has returned. filled with joy, he ran to greet his son. and what a son Abu has become. tall, powerful, a true man. after some hurried greetings, Abu told his father the wonderful news.
"i have met Mahmud, about a year ago, far to the east, he is well and loved by his crew, for he brings them riches and glory. you need not fear for him for the lands are many and bountyful."
the Abu whispers to him, "and we are not the only civilized peple out there, father. we have met a strange people, far to the north. the call themselves ROMANS and the know many great secrets. the have mastered the wheel and have men that can throw tiny sticks far away, killing game. they are truly great hunters"
"what, what EXACTLY did you see, my son?" for Kabir was not as innocent as some would believe. Kabir the drew a magnificent bow out of a locked closet. " was it something like this?"
"yes, father, it is. why are you so afraid of it, no man would harm another.... right, father?". right, thought Kabir, right.....
"but father, i almost forgot to tell you another thing. i have met my true love on my voyage!"
"tell me all about it, son. is she from Medina? a secret girl you were meeting?"
"no, she is called Isabella. she lives on the other side of the sea, and is a queen, yes father, a female rules her people, and a wonderful ruler she is."
but son, you cannot marry a woman out of the faithful. you just cant. i FORBID IT." (1910 light blue borders > spain.)
after a long period of screaming and shouting, Abu realised the truth of his fathers wishes, but did not marry a noble girl, but instead devoted himself to study. in fact he decided that he will share his wealth of knowledge with ALL people, and so he set out to study the first thing - how to keep a record of events for all time. in due course Abu would be remembered as the Graet Scholar, the one to start the official history of arabia.
(1870 writing is in) as his second project, ABu chooses to study the sea, winds and way to make sea travel safer, so no one else would face his brothers fate, for it has been many years ago that Mahmut has left with no news. (start Map Making @ max).
meanwhile the pioneers that left Medina have reached thier goal, a beutiful hill near the coveted vines, and they decide to call their city BAGDAD (1790)
in 1725 a small ship appears around the corner of the bay, a ship with red sails. on it is prince Augustus. Kabir greets him, and asks for his visits purpose.
"i have come as an emmisary of peace from the great Roman empire. we seek to establish some trade routes for the benefit of both our peoples. especially i have got news for you. your son, Mahmut, is alive and well. and has sent ou a gift, too. producing a bag full of gold nuggets" "Praise ALLAH," says Kabir "Allah is great".
(trade rome CB for WC+35g)
many years have passed, but Abu, ever faithful to his first love, dares another journey into the sea, not to marry her, for he is now a married man, with sons and grandsons, but to see her. during his voyage a great storm throws his ship far to the west, where they meet another people. the people of the door the call themselves PORTA is door in thier tounge
(1575 meet portugal) he struggles to fix his ship with the friendly portugese, and decides to abandon his dream of reuniting with Isabella, to bring the news back home of this wonderful people. on the day prior to his departure, a messanger comes into town, telling of a great wonder built by a strange people with golden hair, called Germans, a temple to rival all temple combined, a place where the gods wonder among men giving advice freely. that wonder
the germans have called THE ORACLE (1525bc)

it is now the dusk of Abu's life. he has led, even with all the disapointmaents, a truly blessed life. he has mastered the art of writing, and has even managed to learn all there was to learn of building ship. no one need ever die again from the cruel sea, that has deprived him of his brother. the people are now truly a naval one.

his final legacy is one of wisdom. he has had many dreams of revenge against his father. but none more powerful than that of the people ruling themselves, where even women could vote. that was Isabella's true gift to him. his great new project, that he knew would not be finished during his lifetime was the study of the secrets of PHILOSOPHY. he hoped that the great porject his father, may he live forever, as he seems more than likely to do, would be finished when the secret philosophy and the people's REPUBLIC would be already known. (colosus in 23. can got PHI in 6, CoL for free, the rush form REPUBLIC. or better, trade-gift for CoL)

----------

the situation is DIRE.
we need to get off this slab of an island NOW.
we have a settler ready, but my prebuild backfired and we now have a granary in medina. a galley will be ready in 6 turns. cant rush it now, but run for these offshore one.
go for the silks first, then the settler factory spot.
we seem to lag just 2-3 techs, so dont sweat it, we can trade philo for all of them later.

What about the moving the city 1 NW (as in yellow dot) to avoid wasting wheat. Otherwise yes lets get out of here.

Nice game, soul_warrior.

The two spots for colonization are good. The first one (more to the west) is probably better because of its silks. The second has a cow (and is historically accurate for Cordova!). I say: let's get the hell outta here!

Sure this is a dinasty game so every governor has autonomy to do whatever he pleases. "Oh but we must win!". No, we must have fun. If the guy wants to go for Monarchy instead of Republic, then let he do it...

Next is jst666. He's going to play for 20 turns, UNLESS he makes a revolution.

Ps.: Theorically, we can't talk about "Allah" until after the discovery of Monotheism; we can't even talk about gods before Polytheism, only "forces of nature", but what the hell...

biannezzi - hell was invented after christ, well ok, the jews have a version too, but not as nasty.
adn as an almost pro historian, i can tell you we have our own illusions. meaning, we se dead people!!!!

Room for one more? I've never done a SG before, but I'm a good story teller!

The Darwish Family (a musical troupe of 8 brothers) is making a plea to create a dynasty!

Sure Darwin, you're in.

If until tomorrow jst666 hasn't showed up, grab the save and play it for 20 turns, then e-mail back to me.

Oh, and rush those settlers! We need to colonize the land at once!

(I think we are going to need to wage war against Portugal or Spain...)

I'll play the turn this evening, within 10 hours, that is.
