The best form of Government?

Democracy rules. UN and Mikes CHapel makes it worth playing. The amounts of trade coming in means that if you do get war weariness then your increased luxury rate *will* counteract it.

However, there is something to be said for a Fundy govt. If your empire is large enough, you will generate so much trade that your science will still be coming in at about4-5 turns, which I believe is acceptable.

Just depends how badly and how soon you want advances. In summation, I usually pick Democracy as soon as I get the Statue of Liberty.

In most cases Demo is the best, but there are times when fundy takes first place.
If you don't have UN then warmongering can be difficult if not impossible under demo.
If you are in the latter stages of a bloodlust game, you dont need research, make lots of money from those happiness wonders, rush buy units, which are being built more quickly anyway because there is no support, then send the enormous army out to destroy the world. why would you want to use demo?

Hmm... To build the SoL, you need democracy. Maybe you could just switch to democracy before building the wonder...:crazyeyes

On topic, I think fundamentalism is WAY TOO EASY. Too many units, too much gold, no need to concern yourself with happiness. I prefer democracy for the phenomenal tech discovery rate, but will happily use communism if the AI insists on being punished on a large scale. Sometimes I'll stay in monarchy all game just to make it harder.

Yes, but I dont usually want to suffer Anarchy as my empires are usually quite large. Much easier to suffer only one turn rather than many by building the SoL.

My general style is Despotism, Monarchy ASAP (just like everyone else!), then once I have a decent infrastucture (like Colosseums, Aquaducts and Mike's Chapel) go for Republic with Luxuries on 80%. I then bash along with Republic until Women's Suffrage, then change to Democracy. Rarely use Fundamentalism, as I'm not a great warmonger, always prefer to win by launching a spaceship. Have enjoyed getting Statue of Liberty in the past and changing to Fundamentalism relatively early in the game, then pasting every other civ against the wall! Mwahahahahahaha!

The best Government in Civ2 is Fundaments as you can have eight unit without have to pay for support and they are no unhappiness, it is perfect, except that you have your science rate cut in half!

Communism... I like playing to try to conquer the world so Democracy is no fun.. stupid Senate! Fundamentalism does too much damage to science and I just don't like it so Communism is the best.

Definately Communism, Democracy is good also but unhappiness is the big issue.

Late in the game, after retirement when score doesn't count (but you don't want to let the AI win) Communism is by far the best, as people stay happy and maintanence is cheap, also cities away from the capital on a large map keep people happier more easily...The only other handy one is Fundy

Fundamentalism is definately the easiest (or so I think so)

However you can use all the money that you get each turn to rush build libraries and universitys and therefore increase your science output.

monarchy for quick expansion then build statue of liberty communism for quick production and happiness switch to democracy if things are quiet put luxuries high to grow cities quickly back to communism for quick build then finish on democracy. Gives best way of building a massive empire fitting wars in monarchy and communism. Trick with democracy is to get an ally to go to war with you against an enemy. The ally will always enable you to override the senate. Should have 150 plus cities and 6000 points plus if this method is adopted. Get collosus, hanging gardens, Newton and Theory of Gravity in Capital if possible plus library and university gives massive science bonus. Most of my early games start alphabet map reading seafaring and grab every hut everywhere. All cities round capital just build caravans. I hold off on railroad and flight as long as possible.

I suspect he means Newton's College and C's Observatory - the standard SSC additions to the Colossus, library, etc.

There is a good argument for Fundy and Democratic goverments, but I would have to say Communism. The benifits are just far more helpful most of the time than Democracy, and I usually feel cheap beating the comp senseless as a High Priest. Besides, who can complain about veteran spies? :sniper:

Democracy, hands down.

That extra trade gives Democracy the chance of having cities with 3-digit Trade, which almost no other Government can have. If you have Suffrage and Mike's Chapel, war is easy too, and no bribing or waste just tops the cake :) (Plus you want your population to be feeling free, riiiight? ;))

And I hate it how some people think that you don't have to have Luxuries during a Fundy government. Your people are just content, not happy

:santa:

Oh, of couse, why the Colussus?
The colussus gives an extra trade arrow wherever the city already has one. In the early game, this nearly doubles the arrow output. By the time the colossus expires, you should be no more than a few turns from automobile and the superhighways improvement. Superhighways has the same effect as the wonder.

An early SSC will turn one arrow into 4 beakers. A late-game SSC will make 16 beakers from each trade arrow. An extra 8 arrows in 1000bc means 32 more beakers. An extra 20 arrows in 1800 means 320 more beakers each turn. With all the SSC improvements, the SSC should pour out 1000+ beakers per turn. Welcome to the realm of 1 turn advances!
