You know when your military advisor tell you "the best Greek unit -- that we know of -- is _______?" How is that calculated?

Several times, he told me "....is the worker!"

Yeah I once had some thing a bit like that.

I was in the Modern age with the Romans and so was everybody else and we all had Mech Inf, Modern Armours and stuff and i also had a knight which was hanging around (I forgot to upgrade him).

Then I went went on the millitary status screen thing (F3) and I clicked on the Russians and it said that the Russians feared my knight!

I would guess the "best" unit is determined by it's power value. Attack gets valued more than defense. I can't remeber the exact values.

The "that we know of" is the key. You've never seen one of their military units, but you have seen a worker.

The value of attack:defence for power calculations is 3:2, I think.

I've had the Military advisor say, "X has the spearman..." when I had tanks. :/

In that case, you should really start worrying, for we all know what a spearman can do to a tank!

I fear spearmen. I just had an enemy spearman take out 3 of my knights, with my knights sitting on a mountain. The AI cheats, cheats, cheats like when you watch a wounded enemy galley take out two frigates. Apparently some galleys have better captains than others LOL!
RE: advisors. Their advice seems to be on par with advice by today's professionals, like financial advisors giving stock tips; if you listen, you lose.

The advisors are pretty much useless, but I'll admit that sometimes they say the right thing. In Civ3, of course, not in Real Life. ;)

Earlier today I had, let's see... 9 Wines, 11 Furs, 8 Dyes, 13 Incense, 9 Spices, 12 Ivories, 5 Gems, 1 Silk (for some reason), 23 Horses, 23 Iron, 10 Saltpeter and 12 Coal, (I'm just a couple turns from killing the last opponent) and my trade advisor says, "We should acquire more resources and luxuries."

My theory is that she needs chocolate, or she'll never be happy. Since there's no such resource, she's an alcoholic instead, and needs more wines.

Advisors got to act like they're busy, don't they?

Every once in awhile they say something funny - Hail to the leader, or we'll always will because they're stupid, or they have the IQ of a carrot.

The mil advisor is good to check for strength, and will warn of barb camps if you can't get a world map.

Sometimes the foreign advisor will suggest a trade customer so you don't have to call them all.

I have never gotten anything from the culture advisor.

I usually don't care since I will normally see the units they have anyway

I never knew that. Exactly how does he warn you for barb camps? Does he actually say "There's a barb camp near city X?" Now that would be convenient.

Actually that's exactly what he says.:D

yeah, when I first started playing civ3, I thought it was interesting how the military advisor would warn me of barbarian camps near my cities. but it took me some time to find it out, till one day i opened the mil. advisor screen and there it was... cool, i thought.

I've never gotten anything useful out of the Culture advisor. Do we really need her? Sometimes the faces of the sci advisor get mixed up, so he'll look all depressed while saying. "We are technologically advanced" or something of the like.
Of course, the foreign advisor is the most annoying.
