It's not the best start i'll admit (although i can't see what's to the left) but the fact stands that it was not impossible and you shouldn't have just left.
Host said it was a 10-20 hour game. I'm not playing a 10-20 hour game with that start, as grigori, and getting -1food in capital tile on turn 34 normal speed.
Arctic didn't have a good start either (yeah i know he had 1 gold in his city radius and another just above it), full of forests just like you, but you don't hear him complaining.
He had gold and land without forests.
James also had a very bad start in the next game we played but he stuck to it.
His was average.
Also i would have liked more forests and less plains i could care less about the corn since corn doesn't give hammers.
Haha. You need 2 food sources to grow big in guardian of nature. You got not one, but 2 corn. Also, you got reagents. That's a perfect capital for svart: 2 corn, 5 forests (the rest you can bloom, 5 is plenty for getting to guardian - especially when you have 2 corn and reagents. You know what I got? 1 fish, 1 silk in forest and
not a single flat tile without forest or coast.
You just have to learn to deal with what's given to you, it's part of the game. Or do you always regenerate the map when the start doesn't suit you?
I don't make fellow players play a start like that (I'm careful what map-types I choose) and if someone gets -1 food in cap
5 minutes into a 20 hours game, I'll restart for them. No reason to invest 10+ hours in a game that the first 5 minutes are so terrible. But I can understand why you did not want to restart. You had a
perfect svart start AND you got a mushrooms event before turn 30, basically giving you a completed farm at the beginning of the game.
In fact, 4/6 people got mushrooms while I got -1 in center.
Sorry man, but I'm not playing 10-20 hours of
pure PvP just for your entertainment. I have to have
some chance of having some fun too. I don't want to just stare at my screen, clicking enter over and over or warrior rushing) with two 4-population cities for 10 hours while you play FFH like a normal game. I was willing to play with that start (remember - no religion), but the event was too much. I was doomed to lose and lose horribly (or warrior rush). I wasn't even strong enough to help someone win a war.
ps. Why don't I warrior rush? Because if I wanted to play with warriors (or axes, for that matter), I could play BTS Gamespy warrior fights all day long any day with 5-10 people per game and requiring 5-10 minutes to get players. I play FFH for the unique aspects of the mod (besides promotions being doubled).
I'd rather not play with any of you ever again than invest 10-20 hours in that start while you all don't give a crap and play great starts. Sorry.
Either make it team vs AI, or make it at least somewhat fair - not perfect start vs worst start and +farm event vs. -1 event.
ps. I play ladder MP BTS and I'm ranked. Don't tell me about regenerating. I can win immortal ffh SP and I don't reload except in MP FFH when hours of time together are at stake and it is not ladder competition. I'm not just like "too bad, play your one tile island for 20 hours or you are a quitter!!" I guess I'm just not hardcore like that, at least, not when it comes to 20 hour MP games of a mod that very few people play. I'd make sure everyone was reasonably happy/willing to play with their start before embarking on such a journey.
And yes, in SP I will play a pure junk start and terrible random event even at the very start... but it doesn't take me 20 hours to lose the game. Besides, way too often I've play horrible starts with people for hours and hours and then when they don't get a good start "Oh, I gotta go... I have to take a friend to the hospital!" At least I'm honest. At least I don't BS you with some excuse to leave.
Now, if you think that is crap, fine. I'll be on hamachi for ffh and playing BTS ladder. See you around.
Multiplayer\Direct IP\Load Game\mushrooms\choose whatever civ you want to look at (you can start MP saves alone). This is turn 30 (autosave every 15), before my horrible event.
