No one is using it... so may as well disable it to save a little resource. 
Will turn it back on after the server upgrade though. I might even allow normal members to add events to the calendar... The calendar feature is really underused.

Not only that. It allows people to add their own private/public events to the calendar. I used to use it for personal stuff like project due dates, exams, and other stuff.
Everyone can add private events to the calendar (visible only to the person who added the event), but only mods can post public events that are visible to all.

I did not know that, is it explained anywhere or are we supposed to find it?
To get to the calendar, click the "calendar" button at the top of the page (right up there with "UserCP," "members," "search," etc.). Of course, since it's been disabled, you can't see it right now; if you click the button you'll get a message saying it's been disabled.
