The Civ blahs

So...you're saying...it's possible to get bored with this? I find that, when I'm really busy, I don't have time to miss it, but that is as close as I come to losing my Civ addiction. And as soon as RL lets up a little, it comes roaring back.

I think something that has seriously contributed to the length of Civ-blahs is THE LACK OF A MAP/SCENARIO/GAME EDITOR FOR MACS!!! :gripe:

Anyway, I'm running out of achievements to work towards on my flash game site. Methinks a renewed civ-addiction is not far off.

Can Mac players play scenarios created by Windows players in the Windows editor? Or load games started in Windows? Always have kind of wondered this. It's a much bigger problem than not having an editor if you can't even load games that others created.

Off-topic: Simak, how does Tropico 2 compare with Tropico? I always liked the original but was underwhelmed with the initial appearances of Tropico 2.

Tropico you're a dicator. In Tropico 2, you're a pirate lord. You set up a pirate island and build ships for your pirates. When the time comes, you order the pirates out to sea. The ships take off and you hope and pray that they are successful and come back. If they do, loot. If not, the ship sinks along with all the men on it. Kinda of gambling type build um up game. Lots of fun, but like any game can get redundant and blah.

What's more important, kender? Civ or your Mac OS? The solution is really simple...

[ Tasslehoff will get it, but I'm not so sure about others so: Joke alert! ]

You're right! I just have to borrow a Windows PC! *Walks off with Pyrrhos' computer*

As long as there's no junk in the file (which can be cleaned up with AlanH's handy program), Macs can run them fine. But it's still annoying to have no editor, because you can't fabricate screenshots, a lot of interesting variants are unreachable, and there's just a lot less to play around with.

"That thing looks valuable. The owner must have been called away suddenly or fallen sick to leave it unattended like this. A thief could just walk off with it! I'm sure he'd appreciate if I took it for safekeeping. Really, people should take better care of their property!" ;)

I have tons of unfinished games saved, so I have that syndrome too. I love the opening plays, the early years when things are less crazy. I'll often quit a game in disgust after a bad run of RnG luck, but I'm compulsive enough to save it. Then I rarely go back to that game, just start a new one instead.

I've got many many saves that I've just never been able to go back to.

I'm too OCD about finishing my games to do that. If I'm going to lose, I'll resign and start a new game. But once I start a game, I HAVE to finish it.

Complete opposite with me. I'll start game after game just trying to get good at early play. I don't even always save them. When I do, unless I'm opening a game I have just been playing in the last couple days, it sometimes takes me 20-30 minutes to re-asses where I am and what I'm trying to do. Frequently, I don't have the patience for that, so I'll just dump it and start a new one.

I also often don't have patience to finish games it is clear I'm going to win. I don't think I've ever actually played a spaceship game to completion, come to think of it. I just figured I COULD do it, and then moved on to new challenge. I get bored easily, I guess.

In a related issue, does any1 get "Save Fatigue" where you just cant load a game and always start a new 1?

That is so me! It takes a lot of self-talking to finish a game when I had to stop at some point.

I always get bored when the "expanding territory" part of the game lasts up to/more than 1000 AD.

Yeah, You've been there.
