The Last Conformist
Irresistibly Attractive
I thought it was time to let you people know I'm working at a C3C scenario about the Classic Maya; I hope to release a public BETA soon.
The scenario plays on a heavily modified version of MaisseArsouye's Yucatan map, and features seven Maya kingdoms; Tikal, Calakmul, Caracol, Copan, Palenque, Piedras Negras, and Toniná. Additionally, there is a "Mexican" civ representing the peoples of central and western Mesoamerica, that mainly serves as a trading partner, but can, if the western Maya are too weak, also launch dangerous offensives.
The time period covered is nominally the Classic period, 250-909 AD, but in order to make a tech tree worth the name, you get to research both things that were old news in 250 AD and stuff belonging to the Postclassic. Even the Toltecs make a cameo as a late Mexican unit. Still, I'm excluding Preclassic powers such as Nakbé and El-Mirador as well as Postclassic ones such as Chichén Itza and Mayapan. The tech tree is one era.
Victory is by Culture, Domination, or Victory Points. The chief way of acquiring VPs so by winning glory on the battlefield, but you also get some for techs and wonders. Culture also benefits from war, since Sacrifice is enabled, and most offensive units can capture.
I'm currently focusing on mechanism rather than looks, so gfx are the least developed part of the mod; the BETA will be rather lacking in this regard. Once it's released I'll much appreciate suggestions for gfx to replace the current stand-ins.
While you eagerly await further information, you can look at the below post, which has a screenshot from one of my playtests, featuring a bunch of ill-mannered Copanecs invading Caracol.
