Hey, lady, don't be a stranger.

(Well, don't be any stranger than me! :crazyeye:)

Anyway, I've got a big bowl of popcorn I'm willing to share with you, so that we don't go hungry up here in the lurker's section.

Welcome, everyone! Good to see you around, gma!

gamezrule44, I'll do the same thing I do every time I build the GLib: when it expires (or maybe before), I'll go back to self-research. I hope to pick up Feudalism and Monotheism soon and if I do, I might go ahead and start self-researching Chivalry for the Riders. I don't have any horses yet, and I seem to recall that the horse-rider upgrade is pretty expensive, so saving up enough gold to upgrade more than a couple of them seems unlikely. Nonetheless, I'm really, really looking forward to Riders. :D

Riders are always a fun unit. My best experience with one was a :spear: against a mechanized infantry. Attacking it of course.

ok just wondering, i have never built GL

gamezrule44 remember he is playing AWM on a std map. If he was playing std rules, he may will need to keep researching as the AI is too slow to research here and he would have to wait longer for techs.

If the map was huge that may change again as the tech cost are higher. IOW what you may do with the GLB depends on your game rules and settings. AW you want to pile up some cash for the day it expires and you can use the cash to pay for the research or units.

Being in Monarchy, rather than Republic means less commerce and hence less beakers.

No need to be embarrassed, gamezrule. Questions are welcome.

In a standard, epic (non-variant) game at Monarch or Emperor, I would be unlikely to build the GLib. Sure I could amass quite a bit of gold, but I'd get bored waiting for the AI to research stuff. (Frankly, I'd be more likely to let some AI build it, then give them Education on the turn they complete it. ) AW, particularly on a pan map, is different. The AIs are going to trade techs among themselves, whether I do or not. The GLib will probably keep me technologically competitive until it it expires. I say "probably" because I suppose there is some chance that a civ could become a runaway on the far end of the continent & have techs so expensive that none of the civs on my end of the landmass could afford to trade with them. Anyway, that's really neither here nor there right now. To my mind, the GLib is a bit of a mixed bag in AW. On the one hand, it gives you free techs known to any two civs that you know. In a peaceful game, that's great. Build some scouts or curraghs, go meet people, make friends, and learn their technologies while saving up piles of gold. In AW, though, it's a little different. If I meet new civs, I might get more techs, but I definitely get more enemies.

The game setting are key to the whole usefulness of the GLB. If it is like this game a std pan map, Aabraxan got it right, you do not want to met new civs and get overwhelmed.

If the game is on a massive map, lots of civs with CF raised to match map size, the speed of research likely means the GLB will last so long that you will not have to worry about meeting plenty of civs.

Island maps are similar, in that you are not worried much about making new enemies as they are not real good at invading. In both types the GLB will get a long life and you will have lots of contacts. Lots of time to pile up cash.

Normal games at Monarch the GLB cost too many shields and you are likely to want to keep researching anyway, rather than wait for the AI to learn techs. I may take a research holiday or not and if I did it will probably not be that long.

Move to Deity or Sid and the cost is worth it and may even be critical. All the other level at normal game settings are iffy at best. I have felt that DG is one of least profitable level for the GLB as they will get to Education too quickly for me to get paid. Like everything your mileage may vary.

Well, since I have such Distinguished company, I too, will join the Lurker's Gallery. Please pass the popcorn. :D

Thanks for the interesting read, I cant wait to see how it turns out.

please pass the popcorn :D

Great chapter three.

The key to respawn is that it (a) only happens no more than once per AI civ and (2) only happens if they have some land connected turn to run off to. At least that's my experience, AIs won't get revived if there's not a stretch of unexplored land continguous to the land they were killed off at. They won't jump over to an island nor cross any water tiles to restart. They'll only find some spot on the same continent and never start up on land where you'll see them

I will be in the lurker gallery as well. If questions are welcome, which mods are you using? As I will be installing mods soon as I will get PTW and Conquest tomorrow.

congratz on getting conquests :D

Welcome, everyone!

The only mods I use are graphics mods, nothing that changes gameplay. That's just plain ol' C3C. The graphics that I use are kind of a hodgepodge. IIRC, it's mostly Snoopy's terrain. I know that I've swapped out for stone roads and the mines that I use, and I think I might have swapped out the irrigation. Oh, yeah, and popheads with smiley badges. Everything that I use can be found either on the disc, or here at CFC.

congratz on getting conquests :D

Well it is not here yet!! But I could not stay behind after another game. ( O yes, I beat regent! Standard map, continents, by domination) This game is just so cool I need to have everything who knows maybe I can join a succession game or two. It is also that most mods and games played are for C3C and not vanilla, So I rather get the package now while I still can get instead of play for a couple of years getting to deity and then hoping to find it.

@Abraa: Thanks for telling me the mods, I just was wondering what you used. But if this is the clone wars does that mean in the end you will turn into darth vader?

I just reread your story. Have you made up your mind about the army yet? My suggestion, based on my experience, would be to fill it with AC's. It would take a while, but the extra HP and movement could be very useful.

I have not. I haven't looked at the game since the last post, but IIRC, I only have 1 AC, and that's an elite. I don't care to put my 1 elite AC in an army, so that means 15 turns before the army would be filled. OTOH, I think I have 3 swords available right now. I know how dangerous an AC army can be. However, the whole question is: Do I build an AC army that won't reach full effectiveness for at least 15 turns, or do I build a sword army that can be fully effective right now?

I agree that you shouldn't use your only AC for an army right now, especially if it's an elite. You already have one army, correct? So, waiting some turns until you get another, more effective one, would be okay with me. But of course it's your story and your call, hopefully it will be more effective than one of my armies. It was a Knight army, it won a battle against a sword, and then was attacked and defeated by a pikeman :lol::eek::mad:!

edit: :spear:

:goodjob: Rider armies ..
