@Caymon: The GIMP have a pen-drawed filter (Filter -> Artistic). When set on radius 5 and black percent 0,1, it gives something like this:
manufacture_test1.png
cement_mill_test1.png
police_test.png

The changes are minimal but it should stick better with other icons. What do you think about it?

EDIT: Added a small police icon tryout.
 
Try and avoid dense backgrounds with icons. You will never seen them up close so it just looks like blurry pixels in game. Specifically with that police car, the building above it is out of focus. Could the building be removed and replaced with some sort of neutral background?
 
You're right, the police car background was should be removed. I did not intend to use that as icon anyway.

Sounds good. I need to remodify the image themselves so the frame doesn't get "cartoonified" as well. Easy to do. I used the police station building itself, with the sky in background so it doesn't look so dense. Will post later with cartooned changes.

I did with the old apothecary building, and it looked just like the other icons :)

I just need to convert to .dds. I think it would be better if you built them into the pack file, since you are part of the team that controls the "master" build.

EDIT: Was referring to the old new apothecary building I made. Still having trouble figuring out exactly what to use for the apothecary icon (on Wikipedia it says it's a person). Also, tested the Cement Mill in-game just to verify. The other icons should work as I used the exact same export settings.
 
About the apothecary, I've tried to look at google images. Maybe with keywords like pharmacian or medecin + middle age.

About the icons, be careful that the icon don't oversize the frame. Note that you have mistakenly duplicated the cementery with the manufacturing name.

Sure I will publish the new icons once ready. It is best to not update the fpk often as it is a large file, so the files will be inserted as standalone dds files then from time to time included in fpk files.
 
Does someone want to come up with a new icon for the tech Conglomerates? It is currently a duplicate of the Communications Network icon.
