THE DAY BEFORE
cityruins1.jpg

"December 20th, 2012. New York City.

In the previous night, there was a nice snowfall. Nothing bad to hamper traffic, but good enough that everything was covered in a beautiful layer of white powder snow. Kids were gleefully playing in the parks, for Christmas Break has begun. Others were scrambling to get their last minute shopping down for themselves and their loved ones. I even saw some cute couple proposing to get married as I did my daily walk. Few things were out of normal.

Some fringe crazy groups, however, took this as a day to panic. The world was going to end tomorrow, according to many insane conspiracy theorists. It started with a misinterpretation of the Mayan calender that the world was prophesied to end when the calender itself ended, instead of the joyous occasion it was supposed to be. Of course, all the sane people laughed at them much like we laughed at the Y2K people almost thirteen years ago to this very day when they claimed the world would end on New Years of 2000. However, in the end, we were all wrong.

It came The Day Before."

Hello, and welcome new prospects to the second iteration of an Omega AC. If you remembered my previous AC, the Great Patriotic War, it ended with an almost total party kill in the first mission, with only one (un)lucky person spared the fate of death. Fun times for everyone, wasn't it? Now, after a long time, after creating and throwing away many, MANY ideas (Just ask Dem or LH for some of the promises I've broken on developing my next AC), I'm ready to go with what will perhaps be the darkest AC ever.

Let me repeat myself, this AC is going to be dark. Most of the foes you will face in this AC do not work on a conventional morality scale, but in fact an inhuman one that is incomprehensible to humans. Due to this, this AC could be described as a "sci-fi horror AC". I'm not going to say something "viewer discretion is advised", but use your best judgment if you would enjoy something like this.*

Anyways, with the stupid disclaimer that no one cares about out of the way, let us go towards what you actually care about, which is clearly character creation. As per GPW, I want to make it perfectly clear I will not accept characters such as the infamous Lord Crumpet. Be realistic, yet interesting. That is the key to a good character. Anyways, here is the character creation sheet:

Name: Oh god don't tell me you actually have difficultly with this
Gender: Male or female, obviously
Age: Yes, unlike most ACs, this actually does matter. It helps with RP and so much many other things. Just list a numerical value
Physical Description: (Optional) Now, some people might not want to get into this more than a couple words, and I'm fine with this. What your character looks like is probably the least important thing of them all
Bio: The history of your character. This is actually important, so please put some effort into this. Remember, this game starts in NYC, so try justifying why your character just so happens to be in the city on this exact date.
Items: Anything you want to start with. That is right, just pick whatever you want to start out with, whether it is money, maybe a crowbar, a car, etc, etc. Remember, anything you pick MUST be backed up with your bio, and that getting a gun in NYC outside of being in law enforcement or breaking some sort of law is going to be legendarily impossible.

I reserve the right to reject some or all of an item list, and a character if it goes too far

Now, here's going to be a shocker. There are no stats whatsoever outside of this. No in-game store to buy crap, no skill trees, no points of any kind to earn, nada. All you get in the AC is what you start with and whatever items you can rummish within the actual game. So, be cautious with what you get, for you might be otherwise resource deprived for a long time.

Anyways, at the end of every mission, I plan on doing a write-up before the next mission, so people not in the mission can still understand the plot as it unravels. Of course, I'll stop doing it after the third one I will remain vigilant on my promise as long as possible, but considering how long it took for me to make this AC in the first place, it probably means nothing to you.

*
Spoiler :
I don't actually believe it will be that scary. I'm just posting this disclaimer in case I'm wrong and someone freaks out at me. :p

Nadia Lane, the Mockingbird

Female, 17
Description:
Light brown hair that she keeps cut to just below her shoulders, sea-green eyes, a soft complexion. She is quite pretty. She is well muscled and there's almost no fat on her - a legacy of her employment. She has a single scar on her neck, tracing the entire left side, and occasionally pauses to breathe and rub her throat while speaking.

Bio: Nadia Lane came from a high social strata, the daughter of a massively wealthy entrepreneur and doctor. Up until she was twelve years old, her life was relatively idyllic, even as crime in New York City was battled by the relentless superhero Owlman, using his gadgets and martial arts mastery to put fear into the hearts of criminals, with a code requiring him never to take a life.

Until that one day when Nadia was leaving home with her parents, only to run into a mugging in progress. Nadia's father attempted to convince the mugger to take some money and leave the woman he was threatening alone, but the man snapped and shot him, then Nadia's mother and the mugging victim. He didn't kill Nadia - perhaps because he realized how young she was - and fled into the night, only to be caught by Owlman.

A year later, Nadia finally deduced the Owlman's identity and tracked him down, demanding that he help her avenge the loss of her parents - a loss the Owlman understood. It took two years of training, but Nadia finally came into being as Mockingbird, Owlman's sidekick - a mistress of multiple martial arts and fighting techniques, as well as her own arsenal of gadgets. Now, two years later, NYC is relatively crime free thanks to the Terrific Twosome, as they are known.

On the night of the 20th, Nadia was attending the birthday party of the Owlman's secret identity, having been adopted as his foster daughter. She was dancing when It happened, and the guests began to flee as the Owlman's manor crashed down around him. Nadia made it into the secret cave beneath the manor, but both Owlman and his faithful butler were crushed by the rubble - Nadia saw their bodies with her own eyes. Haunted by this loss, she took all of her things from around the cave and laid low for a little while, before donning the cape and cowl again and advancing into the city to try and save innocent lives.

Dem (Assuming that you actually finish your bio :p) and Joan accepted However, I might be condensing part of your item list down (Clothing, for example, will just be listed as "set of clothing") for my own sanity. Feel free to keep the full list up in your own post. Also, expect to lose most of these items by the first mission.

LH, I'm going to ask you to pick a new character. A Robin expy (or superheroes in general) does not fit with the narrative I am creating here. Until then, you will not be in the character list.

I would like one or two more people before I start mission one, but three (two?) people, I guess, is enough.

EDIT: New idea, I'll just link the item list to your intro and trust that you'll update it once in a while.

Wait, how exactly does the game work? I may want to join, but have never done one before.

Basically, if you've heard of Dungeons and Dragons, it's kinda like that. We all make our basic character stats in this thread, decide how we want to roleplay - then we go to the chatroom when the Gamemaster(in this case Omega) tells us there's a mission.

He tells us what's going on, and we tell him what our characters are doing to react to it. He'll provide challenges, opponents, situations of many descriptions, non-player characters to interact with, and such.

It's really quite good fun. :)

Oh, and just so everyone's clear: I'm not playing this game due to a personal disagreement between myself and Omega over Nadia Lane's creation.

Alright, I'll play.

I'm not sure how to pick a name though;)

Spoiler :
Yes I'm kidding.

Name: Cale D'Argilla

Gender: Male

Age: 17

Physical Description: 5'11". Very dark brown hair, looks almost black at first. Has a Mediterranean look about him, perhaps a little Italian, Portuguese, and something else.

Bio: Ever since he was young, Cale has run through his mind possible disaster scenarios. What would he do if everybody except him suddenly disappeared? If he were mugged and lost everything? If everyone he was with was killed, and he was the last left alive? Crazy stuff, certainly. But it has seemed to help him.

He had been on vacation with his family. They had wanted to get to New York City for the weekend for a one day trip, as an early Christmas present. He was fine with it, although he was hoping to hang out with the girl that he loves for Christmas.

Then, It happened. His family was having dinner in a nice Italian restaurant when the world caved in on him. He came to, in a world not unlike the one's he's imagined. He struggled his way back to their apartment, which miraculously had not collapsed. He retrieved his various possessions, scrounged some from the neighboring rooms, and made his way outside to strike his way back home to Virginia and to find if his love was still alive.

This looks interesting. However, I can't make the next mission. I could come in as a new party member for the next mission, though!

In that case Verede, I'm going to be a lot more strigient on items after mission 1. Let's just say the crap hits the fan hard.

Of course, I'd be willing to delay it to Thursday if it means you can make it.

Name: Nomvula Dlamini

Gender: Female

Age: 34

Description: 152cm, Black Hair and eyes, African ethnicity (specifically, a Zulu visitor from South Africa), a large scar running down just to the left of her spine. She is very energetic, but can fly into a fearsome rage when she is angry and can get quite petty and vengeful, although she normally is very friendly, if you don't make enemies with her, but she is fairly deceitful and can get you in trouble if you're not careful; Be careful of her grey eminence, it could lead to big problems!

Bio: She had emigrated from South Africa when she was 5 years old due to the hostile environment of apartheid, especially after her father was almost murdered by a white government official. Although she initially had some trouble integrating into New York, she eventually was looking up to a good future for herself in America by the time she was 15 years old - By which time her parents had decided to move back to South Africa, as Nelson Mandela rose to power amid a vast wave of both domestic and international support. She would enter school back in her home city of Bloemfontein, where she would again had trouble integrating, but eventually would become a well paid bureaucrat in the South African government. In 2012, she decided to visit New York again, to see what had changed since her childhood - Little did she know that more would change than she would think...

Items on her person:

Spoiler :

-US$1000, in cash, which hasn't been properly safe-guarded yet due to her recent arrival.
-A Htc tablet (this)
-A Crimson and Black motorcycle (rented)
-Phone charger
-Headphones
-Dell Inspiron Laptop (Using Windows Vista)
-USB stick
-Expensive camera
-Western clothes (currently wearing), as well as sunglasses (Not wearing - She had left them in her bag, she didn't purposely bring them to NYC in the middle of winter)
-Change of traditional Zulu clothes
-Separate change of more Western clothes
-Map of NYC surface
-Map of NYC subway
-Addresses of the South African consulate and embassy
-Water bottle
-Make-up bag, including pocket mirror
-ID papers

In that case Verede, I'm going to be a lot more strigient on items after mission 1. Let's just say the crap hits the fan hard.

Of course, I'd be willing to delay it to Thursday if it means you can make it.

Thursday...what time, and for how long? I can make it at 4 EST, but I can only stay until 4:30. I can get back around 5:30 though.

I'd prefer Thursday as well. I could do Wednesday, but I couldn't promise I could be at the computer at any given second, since my parents company every wednesday (We have a Church group) and we usually have to do a bit of cleaning that day. Thursday would be preferred. That said, I can still probably do wednesday, just may be off a few minutes here and there...

The thing is that I want to hold these missions early so our friends in Europe can make them. 4 is 9 over in Dem's time, for instance. Like I said before, I will gladly change to Thursday, seeing how everyone seems to perfer it. However, I'm going to be adamant on holding it at four.

4 is fine, though just barely. I get home from school at 3 and then eat lunch (No lunch period.) I usually don't have homework when I get home, so on most days 4 should work. Just don't make it any earlier.

I won't be available for anything over the weekend though. I'm booked for this weekend. I'll also be away from May 11 to 20, though I don't mind if you hold a mission or two without me during that.

That's fine. I'll have to leave at 4:30 sharp, and then won't get back till 5:15, 5:30 or so.

Are we still doing this? The thing I had that was supposed to make me leave at 4:30 was canceled. But I'll be heading out around 3:00 EST, and I'm not sure if I'll be back before 4:00 in fact I know I won't. But I just need a chatroom link.
