What do you think of this change with the current information?

To me the system look like it was inspired by a game called Warlocks Master of Arcane.
In such case districts will likely replace citizen and each time your city grow you can build a new district.

On these districts you can then build buildings who likely improve the district and you can have several district of the same type so there is room for city specalization.

I like the idea, but I must say also that I don't get a graphical sense of a city spanning multiple tiles from these screenshots. The improvements on each tile looks distinct and unique and doesn't really "connect" to the tiles next to them. I'm hoping that when they say cities span multiple tiles, it will actually look like a single coherent city spanning multiple tiles, not a bunch of atomistic, unconnected tiles which are "part of the same city" in text description only.

It appears that Wonders will occupy whole districts, which is good. It would be detrimental to pile a bunch of Wonders in one city.

Also, I like that you have to plan out your cities. Put like things together and often let the terrain dictate where things go.

Requiring that wonders actually be built on tiles - one of my biggest wishlist features. Let's hope that really is what's going to happen. :)

And Im loving the idea of districts, big cities should be big on the actual map, not just a number. It would incorporate tactics into the actual layout and unit placement inside the city. I imagine certain defensive buildings could occupy their own tile, like castles or coastal forts.

Im really loving the idea of specialized cities actually taking advantage of the terrain and actually looking the part.

I agree in that the district as of now dont look really connected, but its probably something that would get worked on later.

I also think the district system lends itself to Unique Traits. Inca could get benefits from a food district on a hill tile, for example.

Thats is definitely a possibility and can be a huge advantage because it may allow you to found cities in locations who would not be accessible by other civilizations.

Is there any reason to think Unique Traits/Abilities will exist in this game? That was an invention for Civ V; they didn't have it in previous games in the series. Maybe they are moving on to a different system.

The most awesome thing that must totally happen is wonders being built on tiles AND invaders being able to actually PERMANENTLY destroy them by attacking them (with Siege Weapons?). 8)

No longer shall the Wonder Spammers be able to just sit back in their well-fortified capital.

Well maybe not completely destroy, but at least disable/pillage them.

The new tech system that give bonuses for what resources you have access to could atleast partially replace uniques althought I doubt they are going to make the civs flavourless.

I'm confident there will be something along the lines of unique traits. Civ 4 had unique combinations of standard traits. It probably won't be exactly the same but it will probably be within the same realm.

Destroy I say!

And then, if they successfully defend their empire and want to re-use the tile they need to clean it up, which is a worker action that takes tons of time but grants them 10% of the production they spent on the wonder.

Or maybe let them keep some halfway-legacy boon? Like, instead of +1 movement on sea tiles a destroyed great lighthouse would only give +1 sight.
I just don't like the thought of completly wasting so many turns. :p Also, this could probably be abused by players against AIs not properly defending their wonders (tbf, measured on current CiV-AI :p).

Another good idea would be that pillaging/sieging a wonder will leave it in a ruined state, only granting 50% of it's regular bonus. It may also increase the chance of rebellion if the city is conquered.

I wonder how strong city specialization will be in this game, hopefully it will go back to civilization 4.

Considering that terrain will give bonuses to particular districts, I think city specialization will be much stronger than in civ5. I can see players really specializing all their cities based on terrain.

They say you have access to as many as 36 tiles per city but I doubt we will get to 36 districts in one city.

I wonder if you can build multiple barracks to train super soldiers (like each barracks add some experience similar to great generals in civilization 4).

Well, okay. Maybe not entirely destroyed. Not immediately at least.

Maybe something like this:
- If a Wonder is "destroyed" by attacking it it becomes inactive. Completely. It can be repaired by a Worker within a certain amount of turns, which of course means that you will need to drive back the attacker for the Worker to have access to the tile.
- If it's not repaired it will crumble completely and can then be re-built by anyone.
- Unless a certain age has already passed (Like Age in which the Wonder becomes available +2?), then it can't be rebuilt anymore. This would fit thematically, as the world progresses some of the old wonders are simply lost.

Makes me actually wonder how they'll implement the Great Wall this time.

That sounds like a acceptable compromise. :D Although I'd make it only rebuild-able by the destroyer at best. Like, stealing the wonder. Amber room, anyone? :p
I'd actually like to see how they implement walls (and defense buildings) at all! Do they only protect the city centre?
