The Dual Alliance

Spain, turn 202 (860 AD): The Babylonians once again refused the right of passage to Spanish troops seeking access to Carthage. The Republic of Spain immediately declared war on Babylon. Spanish armor captured Lagash in the north (killing a Babylonian Great Leader!) while Spanish mechanized infantry took Uruk in the south.

Madrid is set to build SETI in 6 turns. :D Exportable incense will be connected next turn. Spain has aluminum and uranium within its borders though both are currently unconnected.

Regarding the stats given above, the Arabs have one less frigate now. ;) The Spanish forces consist of:

1 cavalry
5 infantry
12 tanks
11 mechanized infantry
6 artillery
1 battleship
7 fighters
3 bombers
2 guerillas

It's almost the endgame. I've set all the normal victory options on, so it's likely the Arabs will go for a space victory. And it doesn't look like we can touch them that soon - I'm not even sure if we can finish off the Carthaginians that soon. :(

One particular problem now are the radar towers. Every Carthaginian city has one nearby and it's always in the hardest to attk tile (hill, mountain etc). During my drive into Carthaginian Korea, I find I need to take out the tower, before even attacking the city... And each tower is defended by an infantry. I only have 4 artillery in Provincia Korea - far too little. Need time to build and transport more there...

I'll try to head for a space victory as well, and then we can continue the game as per normal after that (no more points). I'm sure you'll want to grind Arabia into dust as well... :D What do you think?

Celts - Turn 203

Finished upgrading all infantry to mech inf. Sank another Arab battleship off the Western Empire. Forces in Provincia Korea digging in, pending delivery of more artillery and MIs.

Tried to insert spy into Babylon but was caught... Unsurprisingly the Babs didn't declare war. :mischief: Successful insertion into Japan.

The Japanese have 15 riflemen, 4 guerillas, 2 destroyers, 2 transports, 1 spear, 3 workers... Weak... :mischief:

Spain, turn 203:

Sent incense to our Celtic cousins. Rebuilding of roads and rails to reconnect the north and south. Began shelling Uruk which is our next objective.

Spain regrets that they cannot be of more use against Carthage at this time. Babylon is not offering much resistance and it is hoped that Spain will emerge much stronger from the war with Babylon. Strong enough it is hoped that together Spain and her Celtic cousins will be able conquer Carthage in time to turn and face the menace known as Arabia.

Celts - Turn 204

Tried and failed to insert Agent X into Babylon. :mischief: The Babs remained polite.

1 turn to ecology; 1 turn to the UN.

Continued to mass produce war-making material, for those cities not building improvements.

Pollution all over the place...

Celts - Turn 205

No idea what our allies are researching, so did space flight. 5 turns.

Completed the UN, but didn't hold elections.

Building mass transits.

Took out radar tower outside Wonsan; massed armor outside the soon-to-fall city. :)

And sank another Arabian battleship; along with 3 other older ships.

Just being curious! On what difficulty are your AI civs? AFAIK they are all on chieftain in PBEM games.... I read about changing the difficulty for hotseat.

Did you do something to get it to Monarch (assuming they really are on Monarch)?

BTW:
Nice game. Anarres and I saw how a 2 player game can be very succesfull (well in any case fast) and fun, so we started one too! But we are playing against each other, having the AI as pawns to move around or kill... :satan:

I think we're really at monarch - we lost quite a number of wonders to the AI (Leo's, Sun Zi's, Sistine, Newton's, the list goes on). And the second biggest (by points) power is Arabia (AI). Militarily, they got the most units as well. Most populous as well. :(

We only begin to surpass the Arabs in tech in the modern era (crazy considering there're two of us researching down different paths).

I started the game. Didn't do anything special - only set it as monarch in the MP screen...

Yeah, it's easier when there're only 2 persons for the game to go around in one round - as opposed to 4 or 8. :) Good luck!

Spain, turn 205:

Spanish forces have captured Ur and are now almost in sight of the Babylonian capital city. The Spanish Navy sunk another Arabian frigate off the west coast of Spain. In the north, Spanish tanks defeat attacking Carthaginian tanks (thanks to an earlier bombing run).

there are reports that the Arabs are working on a secret project code named Manhattan...

Celts - Turn 206

Sank two Arabian battleships off the Western Empire. :) While Wonsan fell.

Agent K in Arabia had been exposed. We tried inserting another agent but it wasn't successful...

Will build Manhattan's next turn, at the Capitol...

Celtic forces digging in at Wonsan, while Celtic armor parked outside Ulsan, preparing for an attack on the city...

Spain, turn 206 (910 AD):

Spanish Navy sinks one more Arabian frigate. Artillery brought within range of next objective (Agash?). It is defended by infantry but is under attack from the east (by Carthage?). Once it falls to Spain the Babylonian capital will be next. :)

Miniaturization in 5 turns. Perhaps one day a great leader will rise up to bring glory to Spain...

Celts - Turn 211

Had made peace with Arabs the last turn - them having completed the Manhattan Project. We weren't really hurting them anyway, except for sinking Arabian battleships...

Began building tactical nukes...

Completed the Apollo Project wonder as well; building all 3 components. The other cities set to building solar plants or research centers; no additional amt of new war material is going to aid our invasion of Carthage much, until the advert of MAs.

Researching synthetic materials - 3 turns left. Until then....

Bombarding Pyongyang with all 8 artillery pieces in Provincia Korea. Stack of armor awaiting orders on the mountain just outside. Probably moving back to base soon, for upgrading works. And then... :hammer:

Our Spanish allies appeared to be overrunning Babylonia with ease. :D

Spain, turn 211 (950 AD):

The people spontaneously add to the ancient Spanish palace that is the seat of governemnt and WLTQD celebrated throughout much of Spain thanks to the recent importation of Celtic wines. Spain sends the secrets of miniaturation in return but warns their Celtic cousins not to use this new technology to make smaller bottles of wine. ;)

Spanish forces enter Samarra leaving only two cities in Babylonian hands. Akkad may well fall next turn. Arabian bombers pount the north coast of Spain though our jets did shot one down. Carthaginian forces moving in on Lagash. Once Bablyon is completely under Spanish control Spain can turn north to deal with Carthage in cooperation with the Celts.

Spanish scientists are researching genetics even while Spain works on its own Apollo program and the internet (which will be ready in 8 turns).

Continued bombarding Pyongyang. Armor moving back to base.

2 turns to synthetic fibre.

Otherwise, nothing much to report.

Spain, turn 212;

Captured Akkad. Nineveh is the final remaining Babylonian city. Arab bombers continue to devastate Spain's north coast. Began transferring jets north to counter. Carthage attack on Lagash barely fails.

Just wondering KD, who you going to launch your first Tactical Nuke against? ;)
Just for some insurance, and loading onto my nuke subs. :) Going to build quite a few, plus some ICBMs eventually too, to form my nuclear strike force. :)

Those bombers must be coming fr those Arabian carriers out at sea. Though I have many warships moving thru the Straits, didn't see any...

I'll send a fleet to sweep further northwards and locate them. ;)
