I propose we should work towards caravels so that we can attempt to get the +1 navigational bonus first. Plus, we can stick missionaries on our caravels and spread religion to the other civs.

I'm still undecided on which way to go with the technology, I'd like to go for caravels like you've suggested so that we can know if we're falling behind our opponents on the other continent, but I'd also love to rush for some of the techs that would help our deficit issue.

Caravels are cool and nice and all, but getting Mercantilism (Banking) is way more important. If these AIs are really that advanced, they'll find us first anyway, and if they aren't that advance, why bother looking for them? (this argument is stolen directly from discussions about aliens by the way :D)

Because you run the risk that they will get so far ahead of you that you have nothing of value to trade with them.

We don't know how advanced the other continent actually is. We do know that they have acquired Literature and Music. This is relevant because Alphabet is not usually prioritized by the AI.

No doubt we should look for other lands. The question is when?

Search far with enemies at door, is a brave, but loser, move.

First master our continent (and don't say you master it, while enemies here).

After, go to the seas.
