The Fun in Civfanatics disappearing?

Methinks that those why say CFC isnt fun are those who would prefer not to have 25,000 members here. Look for other forums cos cfc is only going to get bigger. - spycatcher34

This has nothing to do with the amount of members here - don't know where that came from... when you say look for other forums are you implying that feedback isn't welcome and that if we are not happy with something to leave & go to other forums?

I have been a member of this site since I first bought the game Civ III. I have contributed to the discussions, concepts for mods & scenarios and even made a mod for the game. I think I have the right to voice my opinion on something I am not happy with... my point in my opinion is very valid - balance is required between ensuring the forums run smoothly and not being heavy handed in dealing with people...

anyhow thats my final stance on it... does anybody care, or will anybody do something is not up to me... i felt a responsiblity to say something and I did... ball is in someone elses park now :)

The web is what you make it...

You want frivolity? Then entertain us all! :D

The fun is still alive in CFC, but these days we demand more sarcasm and wit!

This has been one of the best threads of any subject I have come across. One of the things I like about it is that the discussions are civil. So many discussion boards have almost every subject ending with something like "your mother does tricks at the bar, and I don't mean she's a magician." and then "yeah, and you orally porovide negative atmospheric pressure to the sexual organ of a male donkey." This is much more enjoyable because there is not that sort of thing here. The moderators do a great job.

It does seem though that people are almost looking for minor error that someone makes to jump on them.

I have been reading posts on this thread for almost a year and have noticed a certain decline in the "funness" of the board. I almost read here out of a sense of obligation rather than it being fun.

OT is all political now, back when CFC first started out was the glory days of OT.
I don't mind that OT isn't funny, but its just not fun, same ole boring things said, ect ect ect..
Thats one reason i quit my position of moderator, only places i go here is Civ2 PBEM and OT, OT sucks, so i'm gonna end up leaving CFC prolly during the summer

I can tell you the main reason I visit this site for MAYBE 10 minutes a day, while I spend up to 2 hours at another forum: Whining! People complaining about mods, people complaining that the world doesnt do what they say. People complaining they dont get the respect they deserve. People complaining the america is stupid, people complaining that *insert country* is stupid. Its enough to make people want to...... LEAVE

Off topic is about the only place I can debate politics as people were I live pretty much either share my views or are more interested in other things.

So i see i'm not the only one wanting to and/or gradually leaving CFC

People leave, new faces show up. I miss alot of posters who I never see anymore. Some of them, I know where they went, some of them (like Sparrowhawk, Ozz, Hades) just dissappeared. Every topic comes around again, even less obvious topics like "who's your favorite james bond".
When a poster with a certain political slant stops posting, a lurker who used to rely on them to speak steps in and fills the gap. Of course you can get tired of it and move on, just like anything else in life...

I'm still having fun.

Killer, I find it amusing that you state that Padma and Chieftess hardly ever come to this forum, yet Padma is the one that warns you for language. :)

I agree with you though, they do an excellent job in the C&C forums, and they also are friendly and helpful over there as well. The ideal mods for the forums, I would say.

I think CivFanatics can be fun, if you make it so.
