The Fun in Civfanatics disappearing?

IMO FEEDBACK is direct and should be directed to management, not general public. This looks more like an invitation to a public discussion. It is feedback, yes but belongs in the public forum.

I just visited there, thinking that you were probably right, but now I think that public discussion IS taking place in the feedback forum. Specifically in the thread "Thread closing is NOT the answer". But that's a public discussion of moderator policies. Even though Teturkhan specifically mentions moderator policies, is he also asking non-moderators to make CivFanatics more interesting?

On-topic: I think it's good that forums are heavily moderated so there's no "disorders";)

Well, from the viewpoint of a past CFC lurker and newbie poster, these forums are great.

I would rather have active moderators that enforce the rules than forums that are nothing but a bunch of immature morons flaming each other.

I've been a forum hound for many years, and I've seen my share of garbage and b.s., as I'm sure most of you have, as well.

However, I think the members and mods here are first class and, like so many things in life, there are cycles of moods in any given forum.

Anyway, just my two cents...I dig this place and just thought someone should give the mods some mad props for a job well done. :)

Sure, cause this is my favorite forum... Civ players/fans bring a lot to these forums… you have all kinds, doctors, professors, engineers – you name it they have from time to time posted something… those are the people that make the content in the forum interesting… not every post should pertain to strategy, bugs etc – that’s just way too serious (especially in general discussions)… getting to know some members here, seeing posts that show more personality than stats, strategies etc is vital to keep interest amongst the members...

I guess part of it comes down to what people think "general discussion" means.

I look at it as a very broad catagory taking in just about every aspect of game play.

Others seem to think of it as a Q&A section (but be sure to read the newbie FAQ first, and doesn't that question really belong in the newbie thread anyway?) or a place to put polls on what your favorite civ color is.

GenDis is often the most active section on any game board, so even when there are specific sections for specific question types, the temptation is always there to put your thread where the most people will see it.

Has all the humor based on novelty been exhausted? And now we're all playing Deity Level Humor? Gotta scramble to get on top of the humor pile...

Setting Governors in all cities to build Comedy Clubs.

Well, I've let this thread sit here in General Discussions for almost 15 hrs, mostly to let the Civ3-ers see it, but it does rightly belong in Site Feedback - after all, that's exactly what this is. :)

Anybody who doesn't know where the Site Feedback forum is should really aquaint themselves with it. (If you follow the link to this thread, you've found it. ;) )

As far as the topic question, I'm loving it here! :D Thunderfall's *Prime Directive* for us mods is: "Keep it civil." He just want's a civilized Civilization site. That's the basis for all the site rules. That's why we stomp on flamers and trolls, and try to keep spam to a minimum. You're allowed to discuss virtually any aspect of Civ, here, as long as you stay "civilized".

Re: Anarchy. I didn't notice any anarchy. Of course, I knew CT was taking leave, and made it a point to spend extra time in the forums. ;)

Solver: Poly is a good site, too. Different style/ambience, but the same love of the game. BTW, is their server back up, yet? :mischief:

It used to be fun for me, but now that I've been hanging around longer it's became less fun. I'm slipping up on the rules a little now, unlike before, and it no longer is as fun anymore.

The only good thing now is that I have lots of people to talk to - many members posting their ICQ/AIM numbers/usernames.

I didn't notice either and I didn't want to confuse. Inspired by thread title, the last part of my earnestness went away.
:hmm: So the fun meaning of it wasn't realized. I guess I'm not funny. I'll have to increase medication. :)

A propos fun on general discussions:

Exactly. Regarding the meaning of "general discussions", I remember a *complaint* about no generals being discussed there.

Good One!:goodjob:

Well at least this thread didn't get closed down and instead just moved...
so whats my score so far??
2 closed threads and 2 moved in the past 2 months... not a bad record :king:

BTW - the view count for this thread should be at least 2000 - not 450 :) not bad for 3 day thread (averaging 700 hits a day)..

Sure has me beat. :goodjob: Then again, I try to save most of my sarcasm for an occasional venture into OT.
tet, I think I know how you feel. Seems to me, though, that the "good" threads - whether they're humorous, educational, thought-provoking, or just good give-and-take, seem to run in cycles. And IMO we've been on the down side of a cycle for several weeks. I note, though that a couple of pretty good threads ("Too Old For Civ 3?" and "Giving Up Civ For Lent") have stayed near the top of the General Topics for quite a while. Both threads have some humor and (again IMO) best of all give us a chance to get to know a little about each other as people.
I hope I'm right and I hope the cycle's ready for an upswing.

People in OT have been complaining about the declining fun-ness, though I fail to see it, especially with the war's end.

Mostly people just remembering back and thinking about how the good times outnumber the bad ones--making things look better than they actually were.

hi teturkhan, glad you like the idea, i was just joking, i thought of this because i have zoo tycoon, and i always feed my lions with other animals, it's fun to see them running.
well i didn't catch the old days here. it now seems a little serious although.
what would you do to create such a scenario?

what would you do to create such a scenario?

1. make a simple map place little villages over it..
2. computer controls the villages (make sure they dont advance too muc) so keep things simple...
3. each village would be able to bulid certain warrios, forest village forest type warrios etc...
4. human player could take over a village but would not be able to build anymore than he or she started with... so each player lets say starts with 5 unit, each with a certain quality... make sure hitpoints are high so the units last... king unit being the most important one...
5. point of game? last longer than the other guy...

how to do that? make alliances with the computer run players which controls the villages... explore the map so you discover things maybe even add some units to yours (goody huts)... sell the techs to AI players for money etc... I would make all the AI's easy going except maybe 1 or 2... no building etc.. all diplomacy tactics in using your 5 men... thats it... multiplayer version of this woudl be a blast... game could be over very fast depending on the size of map... the diplomacy thing though would the best... back stabbing etc.. ganging up on each other - sounds fun!!! ;)

Yes, site feedback is the place to post stuff like this and get told that you can expletive deleted and the mods are the Gods and God bless the USA...............

Moderator Action: Killer, you know better .... Warned for language --Padma
Please read the forum rules: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=422889

Padma and Chieftess do a great job; maybe that's why they hardly show up in SF ;)

No fun is disappearing, the mods are great, apolyton is bad, cfc rules.

Fun disappearing? What do you mean? I'm still here.;)

Getting to the point: It's those Iraqi threads that takes the fun out of Off Topic. The Civ3 demogame would seem complex to new people. I don't know much about the other forums. Everything is probally discussed too much. I don't think mods are the problem.

How's that for getting to the point?
