This happened in a game I recently played...

5 player MP game with time limits on the moves...as the game went on the limits were increased at 30 second intervals.

Th host jumped out to a seemingly insurmountable lead...two civs formed an alliance in order to bring him down...or at least back to the pack. The number of military units needed to attack take up a helluva lot of time....

Once the attack started the agreesors asked for more time...the host refused to change the time stating "that is your punishment for attacking me, deal with it"

To the host's credit, he played a game in which he was beating the hell out of everyone else....however, by refusing to increase the time allotment, did he mar his standing as the top civ and host?

This game is still going on (the attacking civs are making progress) under the time penalty....

What is the host's responsibility in this scenario?

You're playing with a spineless coward. He's definetly overstepping his boundaries. A group vote should determine such things as time limits. If the majority are for increasing the time, than it should be done. If he's not open to this, don't play with him. He sounds like a real tool. People like that are whats wrong with civ.

Part of the fun of this game is how emotional people can be while playing & how emotional people can get while even thinking about it ( note Drake's reply ). However in some cases it just goes too far, this is one of those cases. The host certainly should grant you guys more time if you need it.

Talk to you later.. Jim.

Hmmm the advantage the host has in mp is almost instant moving, denying tho other players to move all their units while you can is just the same as other forms of cheating to me...if he doesnt want to give the other players enough time you have 2 options, quit the game or have someone else save and host it and then load it up with an unlimited timer (then kill his sorry ass ;-)

But give the people on dope the same crits Drake...they are like spaniards on a pavement...an obstacle to my forward progress!

P.S I think the guy mentioned in the above posts is a git...and should be named and shamed.

That's bad form.
I move just about as quickly as anyone, but if I'm hosting, and see a player about to run out of time, I'll propose increase.

At least now you know one person not to waste your playing time on, don't you?

I am hoping in civ3 that any game options that need changing will be done by a palyer vite and majority rules, not letting just one stuff it up

I wouldn't bother playing such a rules lawyer, and would leave the game immediatly if someone used such an artificial means to stave off attacks.

Such a loser can get his jollies beating the AI, I haven't got the time for it.

time limits some times aren't that bad but if the whole group of players says, and asks to increase the time limits.

then I think that any kind of host should and would increase the time limits and if he/she doesn't then I don't even know if I would want to talk to that person about a game in the future unless I hosted the game and set the time limits for a lot longer or didn't have them at all
