This game seems like it might be kind of fun but is it too sluggish for many people? It takes too long to cycle through units. After I tell a unit what to do there's a pause before it brings up the next unit. And I'm tired of watching the combat animations. I just want to pick attack and snap, it's done and I see the results. Or if I want to know a unit's HP I hover over it but then I can count to two before the info pops up. All that stuff adds up.

I think I can get over the shock of the one unit per tile, absence of cottages and towns, and no specialists. But the waiting is ruining the game for me and I can't get into it.

I wonder if maybe it plays better on Windows. I'm running it through Wine, maybe that messes it up.

You can disable animations in options if i remember correctly. You can also set the tooltip delay (those 2 seconds you refer to) on the game's options, though this affects every tooltip including terrain and cities.

Not sure what you mean about specialists though, you can set specialists on cities granted you have the necessary buildings.

Oh, sorry. Yeah I haven't learned the game very well yet. I'll try to disable the animations now and maybe make some specialists.

Regarding it being sluggish, it might be your computer/setup. It was definitely sluggish at times before the most recent patch, especially on huge maps, which would take ~1min per turn even on my comp (which blows away the system specs and runs any other modern game on max settings). But now it runs much smoother since then. Maybe it'd run better on Windows straight-up, but I'm not really sure since I only use Windows.

Yes the interface and scrolling are very annoying on a minimum spec PC. I have to go to strategy view mid game to get any performance. The click on 'next turn' which doesn't do next turn, it moves your units, and other bad interface features get infuriating when they're laggy too.

I can't deal with it. I tell a unit to standby this turn. Then one, two seconds. Then it asks what I want the next unit to do. It's maddening. Maybe I'll try it again on a Windows computer some day.
