...No, too many games, too little time. And, unfortunately, shooters get the lowest priority.

Wow, Viewtiful Joe is so good, everyone here needs to get it. :D
Only I'm still playing FFTA more because VJ is too hard... :hmm:

Awaiting Fire Emblem, and really waiting for Mario Kart...

Well, Zelda: WW isn't quite old enough for a "Most fun since" comment, but I get the point. I have the first two Rogue Squadron games, and they were both great. Don't know if I'll get this one, though. I've seen it a few too many times now.
BTW, how long is FFTA? I've heard that its over 100 hours long! Surely that's with all the side-quests, etc. right?

Probably, since there's 300 missions and with around 38 hours I completed like 70 of them. I'm pretty far in the main plot though, about 4/5 of the way. :)

I was being serious though, it is the best game I have played since WW

Wind Waker was awesome. :D

I just tried out F-Zero, and... meh. Too confusing and fast, not my kind of game. I will, however, get Mario Kart once it comes out. :)

Blashpemy! ;)

It's quite hard too, isn't it? Just the way I like it :)

I have F-Zero. It's pretty fun, and the story line is so bad that it's funny. But, Rogue Squadron 3 kicks its butt!!!

Which pales in comparison to Viewtiful Joe! :p

A friend of mine has Viewtiful Joe. I haven't played it yet, but he says it's great.

BTW, just got Return of the King yesterday for my 'cube. It's lots of fun and is very similar to The Two Towers except for new levels, new characters, and co-op mode.

I got Fire Emblem! Perfect mix of Advance Wars and FFTA, Fire Emblem makes Civ look like crap! (As if it wasn't already by Advance Wars :p)
It's more anime style than FFTA, and the characters seem more developed as well. The game is really risky, because if someone dies, (s)he is dead, period (unless the character is essential to the plot, in which case it is game over). Not only that, every turn is saved automatically, which makes it extremely handheld friendly, and stops re-loaders right in their tracks!

These are just my early impressions, I still have to see how the rest of the game holds out :)

Skip 'em both and get Mario Kart. Or at least Viewtiful Joe. Then get a GBA and Advance Wars 2, FFTA, and Fire Emblem for your January birthday. :p

Speaking of Mario Kart... (warning, long rant up ahead)

IGN trashed it!

http://cube.ign.com/articles/458/458922p1.html

Before you go off saying that 7.9 isn't that bad or that IGN has the right to give it a 7.9, consider their impressions article a few days before:

http://cube.ign.com/articles/458/458546p1.html

The two articles contradict themselves! Plus, that review is completely biased. Fran (the reviewer) complains that it's too much like MK64, but then how come for Madden 2004 they give 9.5 saying "If it ain't broke, then don't fix it!" as a justification. Inconsistancy here.

Then the whole review is almost purely concentrating on it's negative points. In the entire four pages, only ONE PARAGRAPH is used to describe the ENTIRE POINT OF DOUBLE SLASH, THE DUAL CHARACTERS! What's the rest of the review about? Oh, looks like Fran wants more unlockables (this is the first Mario Kart to have any unlockable racers), Kart skins (?), character costumes (?), remakes of old tracks (I thought they said it was too much like MK64  ), more battle modes (it starts out with four, just like the older ones, and has two additional unlockables), more tracks (same number as before), online (Xlink is working on this, Nintendo has an anti-online stance), better music (it's a friggin' MARIO game), and for it to be LESS KIDDIE! (again, it's a MARIO game!)

I could rant forever, but then again, this is what everyone is doing. If Fran had given it an 8.1 (which is what MK64 got) then I wouldn't be complaining. If it never received a 98% from EGM as GAME OF THE MONTH, and around 9's from just about every other reviewers, then I wouldn't be ranting. But, no, Fran must bash the game by expecting that it's going to be a gift from god. Either that, or IGN did this to attract attention (which, if this is the case, then it is working really well)

Oh, and if this was Gamespot, I would understand, since Gamespot usually gives harsher reviews (it gave MK64 a what, 6.5?), but at least Gamespot consistantly gives harsh reviews, unlike IGN, which pours out the nines like no tommorrow.

IGNorant or no IGN, nothing is going to spoil how much fun I will have with Mario Kart. Nothing. :D

Mario Kart 64 got 6.4 on Gamespot?

Hmm, maybe if they only played singleplayer. What was the strong part of Mario Kart 64 was the multiplayer part. Play the game with 3 friends that like the game just as much as you, and you are in for a real fun game session.

Gamespot is the only website who's reviews I pay any attention to (tho' I also read Nintendo Power's reviews, BTW). Most other sites tend to skew in some direction, or simply aren't clear or consistent. They (GameSpot) are harsh, but consistent, and clearly give their reasoning, and that's what counts, agreed?

Mario Kart 64 got bad reviews in general. At Gamerankings, it's 81%. On the Gamespot's review of MK64, look at this quote:

If you own a Nintendo 64, you're probably going to buy this game whether or not you read and heed this review - after all, there aren't really a lot of N64 games to choose from, and it IS a Mario title. Fair enough. The thing is, even with all its bells and whistles, Mario Kart 64 is very likely to disappoint you after about a week. I wouldn't feel right about not giving you that warning. That said, I'm off to Mario Kart on my SNES to reminisce about the good old days, and dream of what this cartridge could have been.

They were WAY off about the longevity of the game :p

Yeah, I always look for Gamespot's reviews. Although EGM is quite good too, since they have all three editors review it rather than just one. And Planet Gamecube is pretty unbiased considering it's a Nintendo site.

But IGN... I have a theory about their Mario Kart: DD!! Review...

At Cube IGN, the MK: DD review is STILL on the very front of the page, even though it is nearly two whole days since the review. With the controversy of having a 7.9 instead of an eight, everyone's zooming to cube IGN to see the review, giving them more hits. More hits = more ad views.
And also considering their build-up hype, where all their "hands-on impressions" kept stating how good it was going to be. The built up hype causes people to want to view their Insider-only media and such.
And suprise, suprise, a thread that made this accusation at the IGN boards was the ONLY one that an IGN editor stepped in to defend the review. :hmm:

I have always dislike IGN. It's Gamespy for me!

BTW, I think gamespy gave Mario Kart: DD a pretty good review, like a 9.5, or something

I'm thinking about getting a cube, now I've heard about the Zelda compilation they're making available for it. That, and the console's only $100 to boot, plus other good games that interest me, I just might get one.

Gonna be a pain getting used to the new controller though. My SNES controllers spoil me with their easy-to-get-used-to, logical layout.

Trust me, it's easy to learn. And it's more comfortable then the old snes hard-edged controller.
