At has Begun!

Pass this on to the next person in the list. Only these select few people will be playing. I picked everyone because I like how they play the game, and I wanted a real challenge for myself for once. hehehe
Everything is random, and you can play however you like. SGLs are disabled. No AI, so don't worry about exploits... we can all use 'em.

Don't talk about this in the threads or until someone has alrady recieved the first message, I want to keep it a suprise until they get hit with it. It's only one turn, so turn it around as fast as you can please.

Quote this message as you pass it on to the next person in the list. Add whatever message you'd like, but keep this one intact.

Sesn
Sir Bugsy

Have fun, and Good Luck! All of you are among the best players of this game, so be prepared for a challenge.

I'm sure you all remember that, but when we look back at the start of this, when we finish in 2006, I ant to have it handy.;)

2 options for posting saves:

1) Everyone PM me wih their e-mail address, and I'll make out list that I'll send to the group.

2) Post to this thread.

I'd actually like to have both options, just because sometimes people check e-mails but not the thread. Who me?:p Nah, I live in this bloody site.

Couple of things that I didn't go over:

Game is being played on 1.22... I'm sure we all know that by now, or the save wouldn't have worked.;)
Stanard size
All condtions random.
No AI. Just us gentleman, so no poor idiot AI to exploit.
All victory conditions are on, but Sci Leaders are off.

Things about PBEM that you should know:
No real "bartering" between players. You make a suggestion for a trade, and when the next player gets the save, they either take it, or leave it. I have no problem with all services, PM, IM, E-mail, thread, whaterver... being used to work out deals between players.

There is a no "IBT" so if you loose a unit during another player turn, I don't think you recieve a warning. (Can someone confirm or deny this one?)

Keep it civil in the thread, but be as nasty and blood thirsty as you want in the game.

The only exploit I can think of is breaking 20-turn forced deals, like RoP that the other player can't get out off. So no RoP- Rape Bede!:p

This is something of a learning experenice for us all, so if you find something that helps in game play, go ahead and share it in the thread. It will help all of us, since we'll all be sharing... right?;)

This is pretty much everyones first time around at this, so be nice.:p And remember, if you get too powerful, you may just get a dogpile on your hands.;)

Tag.

Kind of a stacked deck you put together here, Alerum. :goodjob:

I'll be happy as long as I'm not the first one eliminated. :)

stacked deck? How'd ya figure? ;) Don't worry, things shouldn't get to rough.... not very warlike... not with Smackster in Handy900 in the game.... nahhhh.;) And ScoutsOut is just the unknown factor to screw everyone up.:p I'm never sure what that man is going to plan to do next.

I'm looking for a nice slow peaceful builder game, maybe an OCC :)

Somehow I doubt that.

BTW - good job on the SGOTM. I read through some of your thread, and it looks like you played a very sound game. :goodjob:

I have to ask, as I've wondered for a while now - "ex-pat" - is that saying you used to play for them?

How does a 48 hour turn around sound for each turn guys? That means everyone has to play that turn within at least 48 hours. Sound reasonable?

Sure it's reasonable, but I'm hoping for a bit quicker than that. I don't really have any desire to play this game for the 23+ years. Of course that assumes two things:
A) a histo victory
B) that I'll still be playing at the end

Optimistically, I was hoping to basically get through a turn a day. Probably not realistic, but I certainly would like to keep it moving briskly. It IS only one turn.

BTW - Hope I didn't seem insulting in the PM, Handy. I reread and realized I may have gone a bit overboard in my explanation.

That's funny I never thought of it like that. I do play football but not that kind. I'm from England, and English living abroad call them selves ex-pats.

Edit: Oh yea and I watch every RedSox game these days, usually playing Civ however.

You'll need to explain this more clearly. Does this include alliances, so once I get into an alliance, my partner is not allowed to attack me until the end of the 20 turn minimum.

A military allience is SLIGHTLY different then RoP rape. When there's a RoP they can quickly move troops next to all of your cities, and you can't force that player to leave. With an alliance, you can still tell the person to leave, and preventing a dogpile that will take you out, in 1 turn if positioned properly, or if railroads are present.

You did not go overboard - see my #1 and #2.

Checking in. I'll check my email & play it tonight (subject to #6 & #7) ;)

A few comments
1. I'm a newb at PBEM, so the "no dumb" question rule must apply to me at all times.
2. I'm a victim of the New Orleans public schools, so consider that when you ridicule me behind my back.
3. I'm a crappy typist. I tend to abbreviate hard to type stuff like say SesnOfWthr for example
4. Do I email the game to Sens when I'm finished?? (see I even abbreviated Sesn's name incorrectly).
4. If you think I'm making a sublte joke, your're wrong. I'm not that witty.
5. You guys are gonna kick my butt. The only game I have is AW - it's my paranoia kicking in. I stink at regular games.
6. One turn a day will not be a problem until - I have to go out of town for business. Traveling salesman you know, breakfast, lunch, dinner, midnight ballet - with no laptop on the road. Well, except for the midnight ballet laptop. :mischief: Can I get a sub to play for me on those days? You know, someone who plays like me. Say Moonsinger or Sir Pleb. I'm sure you won't mind.
7. Seriously - what should we do about my travel? I'm gone about 1 week a month. If you need me to drop out of the game as a result of that, it's okay. I didn't realize this was a PBEM game (see comment #2 above), and I don't hold grudges - seriously I don't! We can hook up in an SG. I don't like it when people hold up SG's, and I doubt you guys will like it if I slow this game to a crawl!

#1 - There are only a couple people who have actually played PBEM's in the game, and they never finished from what I understand.
#3 - Sesn is fine. I see Sens plenty too. :)
#4 - No, you send the game to Alerum. You will get the game from me.
#5 - We've all seen your games. You're not kidding anyone.
#6 - I have no interest in letting either of those players step in for you.
#7 - As far as I go, as long as the game moves at a decent pace otherwise, one week shouldn't be a big deal. We all will have things come up on us. For instance, I probably won't be around next Mon or Tues (tuna fishing! [party] ) Besides, we may well be playing this game until civ4 comes out anyhow.

EDIT: We moved around a lot, so I'm a product of many crappy school systems, so I have no response for #2. ;)

Don't worry handy, we can do either way, or let a sub step in, depending on how interesting the game is at the time. If you'd like to have a sub, give us some suggestions, and we'll pick someone as a team... who cares if they're willing... I didn't ask you first did I?;) Really though, we'll be able to find someone who can play something of an "alt" for all of us when we're going to be gone. I'd really like to have you in the game, but if you don't feel up to the challenge, that's okay too. Either way we go, don't try to kid any of us about your abilities.:p I almost didn't put you in for fear of this being a brutal brutal warmongers delight.

Well, I thought about this all the way home. I decided to with draw from your PBEM game now, at the beginning, so you can find someone who can play regularly. I would rather muck the game up a little now before you get going, than truly muck it up later by not being able to play regularly. I’ve recently needed skips in SGOTM and HNDy05b to deal with issues related to my 80+ year old parents, and I travel a good bit. I know I don’t like it when people are slow to either pick it up or get a skip in SG’s, and I can see myself feeling truly bad about keeping you waiting on me going forward. I’m my own worst critic, and I feel really crappy when I let people down that I like. I also feel a little stupid & embarrased since I really had no idea this was a PBEM. I though it was an SG where we each played one turn only, and never communicated (which is an interesting concept). Anyway, shows you how much I know and how little attention I pay to stuff I read, or maybe it's because of what I did during Mardi Gras growing up…

Anyway, as much as I looked forward playing with you guys, I’m going to back out now so you can find a reliable replacement. So much for exposing me as a fraud. Ha, you'll have to do that in SGOTM. :D

Anyway I hope you don’t hold this against me. SG’s are just a much better fit for my RL situation right now, and I hope we can hook up in one soon.

Again, my apologies. You don’t know how much I appreciate the invite. And how bad I really do feel about this.

Handy

That's really disappointing to hear, Handy. Is there no way we could get you to reconsider?

It's okay handy, just you accepting the invite in the firt place was honor enough.:) We can always have handy just disband his settler. Seems the easiest option. Sesn, send the file you have, and I'll take care of it. And I *WILL* catch you in one of my SGs handy.;)

Sure, I don't see why not. I don't know how to change the name, so he'll have to be handy900. Either way, we need Sesn to upload his save. I'll find someone to replace him tonight. Anyone have a quick suggetion of someone?
