Greedy and opportunistic, Joan d'Arc of France attacks Germany in the Year of Our Lord 400 AD striking across the frontier with horsemen toward Salzburg and its furtile wine growing lands.
Germany, engaged in war already with India, and winning, is forced to give up its gains and redeploy its forces. While galleys of troops slowly return from India, a screen of horsemen are left to blunt the initial French onslaught with a lone swordsman.
Sensing Salzburg was the target, troops were aligned around it to spring a counter-attack on the invaders. French horsemen attacked the city, very nearly taking it. A regular swordsman held against four horsemen, becoming veteran, then elite. Then our horsemen closed the trap by attacking the French rear-guard, encircling them.
There were too many of them to hold back, and Salzburg fell.
Though gravely wounded, the swordsman attacked from a hilltop into the French at Salzburg and destroyed a unit three times its strength! A great leader was born in the fire of combat!
Barbarossa was quickly whisked away to Nuremberg, to hold council with the Chancellor, who was en-route from Berlin.
Bismarck, looking for an edge, contacted Russia and the Zulus, who for many years have suffered from French cruelty. They were both eager to side with Germany when approached about a military alliance. The Triple Entente was born, its sole pupose the defeat of France.
Having no illusions about the ability of its new allys to hurt the French in any real sense, Germany must now bring all its might to bear on Joan d'Arc and her minions.
Thus the Great Swordsmen will march, to Paris if need be.
