As I much as I myself like the Economist, it's a magazine, not a paper. (at the least the version I see here in the US anyway). And it beats Time or Newsweek in quality.
Originally posted by newfangle During the Iraqi war, I only visited BBC and Guardian URLS for info. Everyone always claims that the Guardian is a left wing rag, but they seem to be the first paper to publically slam the Labour party (aside from the War of course).

Isn't that true of just about any newspaper? I've certainly never read an American or Canadian paper that appeared to have anything but the most rudimentary grip on British culture and current affairs.
Everyone knows that. At least they don't pretend to be unbiased. They nail their flag to the mast for everyone to see and I think that is a good thing. And propaganda is overrated in my opinion.
I'm a Guardian Reader, and proud of it. I also read the Times, the Telegraph and the Independent every day. The Guardian is by far the best.
It is one of the few papers that aren't owned and controlled by one of the small number of right wing media moguls.
Hated by the right because of its truth and the far left because of its honesty.
I couldnt disagree more with most of the opinions expressed in this thread which seem to me to have little basis. The only one I'd agree with was that it is read by intelligent people.
