The "Happy unhappiness" bug

Hello.

Something very weird that sometimes happens to me: one or several cities go into disorder, yet the majority of the population IS happy (not content, happy; I'm no newbie ;) ).
There are no resistors (these cities are my own from the begining), there's no WW, the city isn't growing... What happens is just this: on turn 1, the city has, let's say, 12 citizens, 6 happy, 1 content and 5 unhappy. I hit end of turn. The city goes into disorder. I choose to open the city display... and there's no difference, 6 happy, 1 content and 5 unhappy.
This typically happens when I have to renegociate a luxury trade during the interturn. Maybe for some reason, the computer first notices that the lux is no longer available, causing the city to go into disorder, then takes into account the fact that the trade agreement has been rejuvenated.
Anyone else knows about this bug?

:hmm:
Weird.
Assuming the city is actually not burning, if you then have 6 happy/5 unhappy and even lose 8 lux in IBT, it shouldn't go into disorder right away in the next turn.

Ok, got me my whip :whipped: and an ancient times save.

The capital city is at size 7 under despotism. 20% lux tax, 1 MP, 1 lux results in 3 happy, 3 unhappy, 1 taxmen. (It's no other happy/conent boosters present). The city is not burning. I pop-rush the taxman for temple completion.
(Of course, prolly the city gov re-assigns citizens/specialists automatically or one would see there's too many unhappies anyways, but let's assume that's not the case)
Press end turn, the city would go into disorder (first) and the temple would be (still) completed. I could not access the city screen inbetween these happenings, so when I eventually get there, I see 3 happy and 3 unhappy, which seems confusing.

Tha'ts obviously not even near your example, morchuflex.
But maybe something similar, say: you checked the city in question for unhappiness all right, then plopped (lower ranked) cities while leaving a present lux tax untouched and completed a market on the next turn which balanced the loss in lux tax out...:crazyeye:

Maybe you still have a save?

The game doesn't always update the happy faces for you correctly when something happens to affect happiness during your turn, especially lux deals. Just adjust your lux slider up and back down to where you had it, and this will update it properly for you.

Grille and Shadow, you don't get it: nothing whatsoever happens during the interturn. And I'm well aware of the program not updating the F1 screen unless you move the sliders. But I'm talking about stg totally different. Apparently, TimBentley has already experienced it.

Maybe its to do with foreign interference inciting revolts.

i have experienced this also with the lux renegotiation, so and so comes and says, "This deal is about to expire and i think we should give it a proper burial."

then i say, "We would like to propose a deal." and i renengotiate so I can keep the lux. Sometimes everything works like I think it should work, other times I have cities go into disorder, I will then do nothing to the cities, I don't increase happiness slider, don't make specialists, nothing, the next turn order is restored. It is unfair and inconsistent. Of course, I am sure there is another factor involved, but I have not figured it out. And I have moved the lux slider up and then back down to get the correct happiness because of happiness sometimes not being updated immediately.

I've had the same thing happen up to but not including the city still showing as happy after the interturn. One of my towns in the recent England GOTM kept doing it. It was size six; I'd have it set for 2 happy, 1 content, 2 unhappy, and one scientist, hit enter, and it would riot. And nothing would have changed on the interturn to cause it. But when I'd look that next turn, it'd be reading 2 happy, 3 unhappy, one scientist.

Predesad, that's exactly my problem. Renata, you're talking about stg else.

Just checked out some lux negotiation, although not in IBT.
A city with market has 7 luxs. One is brought by a deal which could be canceled immeditelly. I do that, directly access the city screen afterwards and see no change of happy/unhappy although I should (minus "4" luxs should cause a change in that city).
If I now re-arrange the citizens, the unhappiness gets correctly updated (need to click only one citizen actually).

Then, I renew the deal for the 7th lux. Get to city, the happiness status isn't updated. It appears to be worse than expected, but re-arranging citizens helped again.

Btw, here, moving the sliders would not update this (un)happiness issue.
So no IBT-negotiation, but something at least "looks" wrong.

I run into this several times a game, but it's not always from deal negotiations. I've had it happen before I even knew any other civs, let alone had trade routes to them. It's annoying, but one of those things you learn to live with.

It's probably something from mid-turn. Occasionally, you'll see cities end the WLTKD even though you have all the luxs, then return to WLTKD. (could be war wariness though).
