Now in Civilization for DOS os available the hardest levels.

I will post here 2 variants. One is the "Hardest Interesting level", another one is "The Hardest level". In fact the second - is formally the hardest possible level in the game, but it is a little bit strange. It is really hard, but there are some strange moments(you will see it if you play). So, I recommend you playing "The Hardest Interesting Level possible". It is really very hard and really very interesting. Without that strange moments:)

____________Save a copy of your civ.exe!____________________

Unzip those files in your Civ1 directory and replace new civ.exe instead of your old.

In the game choose Chieftain level.

Whoa.

Whoa.

Whoa. I just tried the 'hardest interesting level' and it's insane :crazyeye:
There's a wonder being built every AI turn! And the game ends at 3000BC. So it's space race for the AI till then.

One thing I noticed was once you carry on past the endtime 3000BC.. you get one content citizen which makes it possible (albeit stupidly slow) to continue playing.. I wonder how long I can last against the mega-civs.. *goes back to playing*

Oh. And thank you sir for making this. :)

well -
a CiV.EXE modification...

A) did you create an additional level beside empereor?
or
B) did you (just) 'tune' empereor harder?
C) did you change the Ai behaviour?
D) did you change the strategies of the AI tribes?

please - a little more INFO is REALLY in NEED...?

Wow, great editor, thank you! It may be very helpful!

About difficulty - it is BUILT-IN difficulty level. It was just not available for choice :D

In fact, there is built-in increase of difficulty level. On each number increase - AI's development speed, its aggression, pollution(for the hardest level possible, but not so interesting), etc. And for chose were only available 5 of those numbers.

In fact there are 31 220 difficulty levels and worthwile playing - 256.

In fact I changed in one place difficulty level from Chieftain to Archilevel, using assembler command.

In fact, this editor doesn't work for Civilization for DOS civ.exe.

It shows, that Code of Laws is required t build SDI Defence and Atomic Theoory - to build Library :D

And changes just don't make anything.

Agression? I'm guessing that number affects the amount you would have to pay the AI for peace.. and the level of backstabbing it does.

i didn't test it 'til now...
(how) is the difficulty adjustable (if)?

most interesting point for me is the AI development, so i can start a scenario(-map) i did create, let the AI tribes develope their areas and can switch at a point where the scenario looks (more) interesting
(save the game and use the 'normal' 474.01 or 474.05 exe) ...
... or will it affect the save game files ( sve's and map's ) as well?

sorry.
i thought it would work because it did work with the SVE's ...
maybe you had to use it just for 474.01 ... or ... (up to) 474.05 civ.exes?
remember the editor is from 1993 and we don't know which civ version the programmer did (try to) modify... ? ...?

idea:
maybe it modifies just the backup of the civ.exe?

About the first question: Nobody bothers you changing difficulty level in .sve file. :D You wait till AI develops, save the game - and change difficulty level(not by editor - it will crash).

About the second question - Damn, I thought, it is your editor. But about its working - I don't care :D, 'cause I can modify that things in .exe on my own.

I have a question for you. Do you know how to change colors of civs? For example, if I want to make Russians green, not white. How to do that? And I mean NOT renaming them.

this question has to go to DACK - he knows most about Civ program 'conditions' ('where is what') (i think) ...his TERRAFORM EDiTOR: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=126921
...his CIV$ - editor for CIV.1.DOS *.SVE files http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=112297

another thingy:
Busted Civs
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=147548

- (1) is the AI still agressive (even nearly defeated)?
that would be interesting.
(i did see that many AI tribes (example: french) 'give up' if you take 2 or 3 of their bigger cities (even equipped with armor and so on) ...that's boring.

and (2)
- are all AI tribes now the same ('behaviour')
or are there (still) strategic differences?

and (3)
- are those AI tribes aggressive against 'each other' as well or just against the human player?

1. At first try to nearly defeat them :D May be AIs "give up", because the most of their power is located in capital and best cities

2. They build a lot. I can't say that extremely much, but a lot. Though hard to tell, how much they build in late ADs...:) Didn't play till that time. But in CivWin strange thing happens - they become calm after a while. Though - I think it doesn't happen in CivDos.

3. They fight each other. I don't know, more or less than Emperor, but they fight.
