hey all

this may seem a bit random but its been bugging me for a while :)

after playing civ2 for a rather long time alot of the sound effects have been embedded in my memory some how.

anyway, one day i was watching the film Monty Python and the Holy Grail and something suddenly struck me.

i was watching the scene when they attack that knight that is guarding a bridge or something (he cuts off all his limbs and he still tries to fight) and i realised that the sound effects from that fight are the exact same ones used in civ 2!!!!!!

the sound file SWORDFGT.WAV (used when a unit such as the leagion attacks) is taken directly from that film, im sure of it...

is there any story behind this bizzar thing? comments anyone?

it may have already been mentioned (and probably has) but hey, im just interested :D

Trolling another page back in this file will yield the thread "Monty Python in Civ II" where a similar discussion takes place. I recall yet another thread where the discussion is taken further.

When viewing all the threads in the general discussion forum, go to the bottom of the page and search for "monty". You will get a list of similar threads and also the thread discussing where the wonder tunes come from:)

Yer I noticed it too, I notice stuff like that everywhere, probably the most used sound effect I've heard is one that's in the beavis and butthead do america movie, where they're fighting in their underwear - the smashing sound that the pot makes when it crashes into the wall I've heard in a LOT of places (not Civ2 tho).

Yeah, you guys are right. Such collections are called production music/effects. They can be very expensive to buy, but they come without restrictions on copyright. I still wonder why CIV II got off with using Elvis. Did his estate sign off on it?
