The Iroquois are about to attack us!

Probably because we're human, and the Iriquois are starting to develop their UU.

Perhaps allying with Rome and Babylon and pulling them into the upcomming war is the way to go. I know that in a few of my Regent attempts, nations that I thought would be potential allies went to war against me...

Last night in my monarch game two allies turned against me and broke military alliance we had. Shame especially for always friendly Gandhi :). We should be certain that AI can't be trusted even if we sign RoP or gold deal.
I only afraid of their UU because it is fast, cheap and strong. Mounted warriors can kill spearmen most times and they are fast and will move through terrain faster than we can send reinforcement. I forgot, they can retreat too, when losing.
Again, this is dumb AI so Iroquios probably won't know how to use their advantage.

stuff em. what can they do to us, don't appease them and don't Provoke, ignor them if they decide to attack us then we can use rome to smash them. also we should reinforce any citys they are near.

I don't know much about how the AI does things, but why would they go for us? And Immo, rather than Epolenep. If they want room, they should attack Rome.

I'm all for giving them a little gold to hold off.

Probably for a few reasons:

1 - It's the city closest to the Iroquois.
2 - It probably has a resource (saltpeter? oil?) that they know about.
3 - 2 factors:
a. One of their warriors (it's always the conscript, it seems!) fortified inside our territory.
b. Two warriors to the south turned tail and are headed due north.

That can mean only one thing -

The AI's "Declare war with X" flag has been triggered. Maybe it was triggered for Babylon, and then something happened and it triggered for us.

I also think the Iroquois will declare war on us but is it time to react? Three warriors couldn't take Immo. The first thing to do is to finish the road to the Iron, and send another spearman to defend the "three-cattle city" who will be the closest to the territory of the Iroquois and who should be well defended. I saw that Mounted Warriors could reach 8e (or 8e) in about 7 turns from the nearest city, Allgherny.

One thing bad about war, it wastes ur sheilds (production) and your commerce, i try to avoid war at all costs, stay away from it unless its just imperative, but i say just build defensive units and expand our borders, while keeping them in a hunch-hole where they will "have" to declare war on us....

I was just wondering has there ever been a war in the Demogames that has been lost, or not achived objectives, made peace with less citys than started?

If they declare war on us, then let them bring it on. This way we can destroy them. First we will need to be defensive because we don't have the army to fight and go on the offensive just yet. The best time would hopefully when we have got some Samurai to get that goldern age and have mass production of Samurai to wie out any enemy, but if we don't then we need some barracks and swordsmen to stand any chance of victory. A few alliances won't hurt. Even if they are broken, then our rep stays if good stand with other nations.

This is the text of a memorandum that I have sent to the Military Affairs Department.

There are only 2 columns of land open from which the Iriquois can attack. Currently, the Romans do NOT have ROP with the Iriquois, but we do not know about Babylon. As a citizen, I recommend that we fight a Partisan War and not go beyond the Babylonian/Roman Borders. Of course, if any of our cities are captured, we should make all efforts to recapture them. Even with the Mounted Warrior, the supply lines will be streched thin, especially since within these open columns are hills or forests. If we violate these boundaries, then it will be our supply lines that will be streched.

Now, if Rome also declares War, do with them what you will, with what we can.

The Department of Domestic Affairs will assist you by allowing the upgrade of the Warrior currently stationed at Zojoji. This can be accomplished by either waiting for the Spearman in queue to relieve it so it may trek to Furuyama, or, if Governor Zarn asceeds, by the construction of a Barracks at Zojoji at the Mayor's Request. Further upgrades will depend on WOTP.

So, what's the temperature? Use our Gold for Upgrades? Or for Alliances?

We could have Rome attack the Iroqs and have them entwined in a war, as they are far closer together leaving them far behind. You just better hope their forces are a match for one another.

Otherwise, no foreign intervention. We should just build alot of swords and maybe a few spears. We should also consider some mounted units for quick movement to counter the mounted warrior (defense is still weak and then they have no retreat).

They are eventually matched now but I don't know about when Rome gets legionaries. I would have to say Rome would win out eventually though, they have better terrain.

If we go worth with it, then we would eventually make peace with the Iroqs (they wouldn't want to 'hot' enemies but it would need 20 turns of war first). Then we can declare war on the Romans. Take our Rome, then the Iroqs. There are plenty others for diplomacy.

It may not be the best idea, but I'm trying to get a feel of what people want to do, so I can either prepare for immediate action, plan for defense, plan for a war against Rome and eventually crush the Iroqs later, etc...

Nice strategy! We should go with it. The problem is we don't want to give polytheism for alliance. If we have something else to send rome into war with iros than its fine.
It is likely that rome will get a tech we don't have in few turns so we could make a deal: polytheism -for- tech+alliance and prepare army and strike at weak and undefended rome. Later we could just overrun iroquies because they will be exhausted :). Even if we trade poly there we will be able to trade it for another tech 99% (example: mathematics) because poly is very valuable.

I used this tactic very succesfully against AI on emperor difficulty. The downside is that AI won't like us too much but who cares.By that time we will br too strong. They are (AI) traitors anyway :king: .

I guess as long as we eliminate everyone before navigation...
