Good point, but so far it seems that the few who do are about evenly split on this matter, the NO vote having a slight edge. I think to make a major change without causing a civil war you should have a two thirds majority.

hehe, well DP, it ain't no democracy here.

But I do agree! Apart from being an even poll, I get the impression the no-voters actually say why they voted no, while many yes voters simply say "yeah, go for it" (I know, I know, not all do...).

If XIII doesn't like moderating all these political threads then why doesn't he just stop moderating instead of trying to screw up the forum for everybody else?

Why on earth would anybody moderate in the Colosseum if they are only interested in Civ (which is the franchise apparently...)?

I don't see it as screwing up, I see it as something good. I love those political debates, but they're always hidden between a big heap of nonsense...

Regardless of your opinion, the whole off topic being changed just because one moderator can't be bothered to moderate?

Seems a bit strange to me.

Besides, you'll only be left with two dead and boring forums with a ridiculous number of moved threads and far less active users etc.

Plenty of reasons have already been posted. They account for my no vote.

But I don't see the logic in changing the forums structure just because one moderator doesn't want to do his job or decides off topic isn't really part of civfanatics...

Kill the site why don't you?

I will agree with Pothead here and say we need a bigger Yes camp to do this change. No need to split OT a-la War of Secession...

Steak is good, ice-cream is good... then I guess it will be also good to keep them together... ;)

Makes perfect sense.

I think XIII is doing a fine job as a mod. But I don't like this idea.

But surely if he can't be bothered to moderate then he should just stop moderating and not try and mutate the forum to his liking (something he can be bothered to moderate)?

By the likes of it, OT will not split-up. XIII had a good idea here. Agree with him or not, don't insult him (he has the "power stick") ;)

Who's insulting him?

I say split the beast. It'll be worth it just to slow the descent of threads into page 2 oblivion, and also reduce the amount of whining from both the fluff-loving camp & the Constant Feud Corps about each other's threads. Those who like both will probably get to see more of each, since fewer threads vanishing off the bottom of the page will result in fewer repeated threads and longer lives for the existing ones.

The reason they descend to the 2nd page is because most people dont find them interesting enough to reply to them...Thats pretty obvious isnt it?

Alot has already been said here, but I want to adress a view points nevertheless:

1) Making a poll about this is useless as nothing else, especially with certain people being able to change the outcome but more specifically with every registered person able to vote, including those who never post/hate OT/are a Dl and others XIII recruits elsewhere. :mischief:

2) Why does there have to be another poll about this until XIII gets the outcome he wants? Then just do it but leave this childish nonsense outside.

3) If people leave because of politics, that's their problem. If someone is not able not to avoid clicking on a thread that might contain things that enrage his poor little soul he better avoids the internet as a whole. If someone just loses interest because everything has been discussed several times that is no reason to change the forum. There are loads of others where you can spam, this was (and is) special.

4) The amount of threads posted in per day is not higher than anytime before, there is from that part no reason to change anything.

5) The split-off topics have suffered alot, because there are basically secluded communities in the other forums, such as history or sports. People like me who post in all of the Colloseum are the minority. In other words, it destroys the community.

6) The reason why kids are big here now is basically the lenient policy on spam. People should be sanctioned for one-smiley posts as it used to be.

7) I'd also be interested in the other mods' views, but just out of curiosity.

8) As I said when this came up first, if something has to be split off then it is the spam (pointless polls, quizzes, etc.) to a forum where there's no postcount so that noone uses that to get to 300, just to stop posting afterwards.

9) OT was and is great because of the way it is. The mixture between serious and light-hearted stuff is what makes it interesting.

10) Now if you, K-DSKM13, don't like OT at all then I honestly don't understand why you mod it. I mean, there are valid reasons for not liking it from certain perspectives, but I as someone who hates spam also wouldn't want to mod a spammy forum like there are so many on the net.
So if there should be a split, which I don't see any reason for, even with this poll, it would make alot of sense if you would not mod the serious discussion forum then, but leave that to those who don't hate it as much.

No - a forum with only political/religious discussion would be boring, and a forum with only light-hearted threads would not be interesting enough.
It's sad enough that the Mafia game was moved ( which was more of a community-building activity than a real game), we shouldn't do that to the entire forum.
