That scenario seems to progress very well! I like the idea of 1830 as starting date and the migration idea. I don't think that any other scenario has implmented something like that. Thus, another unique feature of the scenario!

Keep up the good work!
CellKu

P.S.: I hope to find some more time to contribute some ideas, as well, but my days are horribly loaded with work right now.

CellKu,

Thank you.

Start date will be 1830.
Population stats for this year are interesting.
For example US had 13 millions in pop. France had 33 millions.
If this ratio would have been true 2004 France should have
750 millions in pop. !
1830 was also the start of the railroad-era.

I hope you will have time to post in this thread
in the future.

Rocoteh,

Will the new start date change the civilizations?

Metacomet,

This is the current list for 1830:

Britain
France
Spain
Portugal
Italy (Sardinia)

Germany (Preussen)
Austria
Russia
Sweden
Ottoman Empire

Greece
Netherlands
Denmark
Switzerland
Bavaria

Naples

China
India
Japan
Persia
Siam

Apache Nation
Argentina
Brazil
Colombia (1830 it included Venezuela and Ecuador)
Mexico

Peru
USA

Abissinia
Free Boer Republic

Thus one "reserve-place".

The situation:

TGW-DIV 1.3 and TGW-DIV Fast 1.0 have been completed.
Sarevok have stated he will complete Barbarossa 1.2.

Thus I can resume work with 1830.

On priority: Sometimes I consider to give my WW III-Global
priority or to start work with a new WW II-Global.
Reactions on 1830 have not so far been massive........
(In terms of posting)

However for the time being I will continue with 1830.
My first plan was that 1 million in population should give
2 population-points. I have increased that to 3 population-points
Thus US cities will have 39 population-points. (US had 13 million
in population 1830.)
Areas with low urbanization will have other ratios.

The cities of US, Mexico and Apache Nation have been placed.
Apache nation will have what-if stats that give it a chance
to survive beyond 1850.
Mexico is huge but population-stats are low and that makes
it vulnerable.
That holds true even more for the nations in Latin-America.

Metacomet and CellKu have supported 1830 and
I really appreciate that.

Otherwise no one seems to be interested in this scenario.
Thus 1830 is now on hold. I will probably turn into a personal mod.

Maybe the low interest is connected to the fact that
there have been a sharp drop in general for scenarios
the last 2 months.

Thus my current plan is to complete the update of WW2-Global
by November 15, and then continue to support TGW and Barbarossa
with new versions.

The future for the 60% completed WWIII scenario is uncertain.
I could maybe complete it March 2005.
Then there is CIV 4............
The day CIV 4 is released all CIV 3 scenarios will be stonedead!
Working with a scenario that is completed 2-3 months before
the release of CIV 4 is not a good idea.

Hi Rocoteh, Do you have info on the approx. release date of civ. 4.

That is the release that may finally force me to buy a new computer as my current one is 5 years old.

dreadknought,

There have been nearly total "official" silence
concerning the release of CIV 4.

My guess is October 2005.

Best Regards

Rocoteh,

At least for me I'm still really interested in the scenario, but latelly personal and professional obligation didn't let me a lot of time. I'm sure that once the people see the scenario it will be a lot of interest.

I hope you reconsider the idea and you will decide to publish the scenario for everybody. :goodjob:

Metacomet,

If I only find more time its possible I will reconsider.

Release date for CIV 4 is also of course very important.

That is right. The closer the release date of Civ4 the less time for people to concentrate on the scenario. Btw, how far are you with 1830. In case you will really cancel it, I hope you haven't wasted too much time. However, as Metacomet, I would still like to encourage you! :)

CellKu,

I estimate the WWIII scenario to be at 60% and
1830 to be at 30%.

In this case it seems to be better to concentrate on WWIII if you make another scenario, beside TGW, WW2 Global, etc.. It might be necessary to not complete the scenario too late, as possibly no one would play a Civ3 scenario after Civ4 has been released.

CellKu,

Yes the WWIII scenario will have priority when it
comes to new scenarios when WW2-Global have been completed.

At the risk of going up on thread necromancy charges, I'm bumping this because I think it's a good scenario that should be brought to the attention
of players who were not around when this was first released.

The major problem with this scneario was it has a very long load time. Fortunately, since its release, El Justo discovered how much disabling trade
speeded up the game.

Since this scenario no longer maintained, you need to be willing to use the editor, but I think it's worth it. So here's what I think you need to do before playing :

1) Disable water trade (Ports), and air trade (airports).

2. Disable Ports and Major ports creating ships, disable Factories creating
Artillery, Iron Works creating Tanks, and Airports creating Fighters.
Alternately, lower the frequency with which units are produced. The goal
here being to slow the proliferations of units, which also slows the game down.

3. Reduce the number of pre-existing units.

Enjoy.

Serutan,

I agree, The Old Empires is really a good scenario.

In fact I have done some work on The Old Empires - Version by Rocoteh 1.8
the last two months. It includes changes to speed up play.

When I hopefully will have time to resume scenario-creation again its
possible I will upload version 1.8.
It will only use standard units.
There will be no auto-production of units.

I have a quick question...

How long do you think the origional TOE v. 1.9 would take to load? I have a 1.6GHz processor with 512MB of RAM. I am currently loading and have been for 35 min. How much longer until the game should start?

By original, I mean without changing anything in the editor.

Dunno. I have a 3.2 GHz, 2G of RAM, and I gave up after 15 minutes. When
I disabled trade, it took about 3 minutes.
