the oobs 4th pitboss game (Warlords), 15 players

game down.

Both servers are down. Since they both recently started a new turn I probably won't reload the game but just get the connection back up as there will still be plenty of time left.

I'll be home in about 6-7 hours.

The servers are back up, I would have done it an hour ago when I got home but forgot till now.

I ended up having to reload the games as I couldn't get into the server without rebooting, so we're at the start of the new turn for both games.

works fine for me. If it is just oob's connection that sucks you can try swiching to modem under options in civ and turn of all other programs. This seem to help if you have trouble getting in(also don't alt + tab away).

That's a good point about not leaving the window (alt-tab). Took me a while to figure out that when I left the window to do other things on my pc I couldn't play this game. All the other games I am in no problem but this one likes to half my full attention for some reason. ;) Even with dedicated window time there can be a 30 sec wait while after the connection before the download begins. Very odd behavior.
I got in fine with the exception there was a long wait for anything to happen after I connected but thats almost normal now. Not sure how this is going to play out as the game gets more complex in the later years.

Well if the connection is normal it works fine to alt + tab however if he is uploading something else or his connection or hanging you'll get so slow upload civ can easily timeout the connection if you have your computer focus on other things. Given that oob set his connection limit to 10 Kb/s it is not that strange it is going slow. It will only take longer to download as the game progress(due to larger filesize) it will hopefully not be harder to get in.

I have the same experience. I can play it fine, but very SlooooooooooW.

This may have been due to me downloading the 'Orange Box' over the weekend, which would have used a lot of my bandwidth. Was only using a little of my upload though so it seems a bit odd.

Anyway let me know if this continues.

appears to be find now ... what is the orange box? :)

I've preordered it on Steam, which allows me to play in the Team Fortress 2 beta, which kicks ass.

Crap US dollar = cheap games for me :D

Yeah the only thing in the pack I already had was HL2 itself so I got quite a bit out of it. Apparently you can 'gift' the stuff you already had to other people, although I think I'll have to wait till the orange box is actually released before I can do that.

Playing HL2 doesn't have much to do with civ ptbs given the very different time aspects they ocupy(civ is continus but very short actually time while hl2 requires loads of time but you can take whatever breaks you want).

Yep, I'm pretty eclectic in my gaming tastes.

Any chance of trimming the clock next time the game is down ? turns are running at 27 hours with the 24 hour timer.

I prefer it to be fairly long, so that during wars people will have time to take their turns in a particular order, and so that outages will be less of a problem.

I agre with iandc that it is fairly anoying that the time you can take your turn at through the day is lapping around 3 hrs every day. It makes it harder not easier for people to keep turn order when you never know when the turn will end. I would prefer to play with 12 real hour on the clock but that is not in the game rules of course...

It isn't possible to have a consistent start of turn time anyway because some turns end early.

yeah but then the turn will only end earlier and earlier not later and later. Hence you can always take your turn 24 hrs after the current turn(and if you are last in the turn you just take 2 turns at once). It wont be a problem that the ccurrent turn haven't finished yet. If you are only able to take turns at a given point in any day that means it'll be 48 hrs between turns which will slow down the game alot.
