The plane attack problem- make them ground and sea units instead!

I am trying to catch up on reading in this section, but I had an idea that I wanted to share and hear if any of you guys have already tried it...


Something I am working on is as follows:

A-10 Tank Killer - a GROUND UNIT with low defense to encourage stacking. Since it will be a ground unit with an airplane icon it will be able to KILL other ground units.

Dive Bomber - a SEA UNIT with low defense to encourage stacking. SInce it will be a SEA unit with an airplane icon it will be able to KILL other SEA units...

Has anyone else tried this? If so please post a link!

If not I will be trying to make one in the next couple of days...
 
I don't think that's really a problem though.

Operationally, the WartHog doesn't conduct missions over the ocean.

Dive bombers are a different story. Maybe you should use an aircraft that is more at home over the sea, so it has no business over land; (SeaHawk with Hellfire or Orion with SLAM....)

Operationally? No. But If there were any stationed near coastal areas and a REAL threat of invasion by the sea, I'd suspect we'd see some Thunderbolts hastilly modified to carry harpoons and other antishipping missiles. Never mind that that peashooter could do to a ship's deck crew. There's nothing really STOPPING an A-10 from hopping over water either, ya know.
 
Nothing that couldn't be solved by the powers that be making a unit editor that allows units to move through sea and ground with no problem...

Still working on it--- just not liking my options right now due to limitations with the editor...

Also, I am going to go through and make it - but what is concerning me is how to get the AI to use it properly.... I would love to have an option that makes the unit want to stack and/or end its turn in a city.
 
You could give the A-10 a bombard capability, so it can at least damage sea units, even if being a ground unit it cannot cross oceans. Also giving all terrain as road will make sure it does not get stopped by difficult terrain.

Similarly the dive bomber/naval fighter could be given a bombard capability to damage ground units, however its inability to move across normal terrain would make it a pretty useless unit.
