the profanity problem

I agree, but there is still more of a shock value when people use derogatory names, but yes, I would hope that both phrases be treated with equally harsh punishmnet. But isn't that the point? We are trying to cut down on swearing and trying to cut down on insults as well. Saying one vulger word is a lot easier and more spontaneous than trying to say five. Not to mention, if someone has to type more words, they are more apt to think about what they are saying, not that this always helps...

People who need to be made typing more words to start to think about what they are saying should recieve a permanent banning as a precaution. ;)

I think only consistent and extreme use of highly offensive language deserves the ban. But single use getting 3 days? You have to be kidding me. Though with 49,000 members you mods could care less, that discourages people to come here if it has an extremely tight ruleset that makes its members live under the rules they lived under before they entered their teens. Though I completely understand it, it may be a bit too extreme.

Exactly. It simply reminds one how much nonsense people waste their energy on. ;)

I saw one moderator say that pre-teens are members here. I thought there was a minimum age for joining?

No...anyone of any age can join.

Besides, if anybody under a limit wanted to join, you lie about your age. :mischief:

So you're proud that you foiled the rules and happy to encourage maybe younger people to join the forum and make probably more spammier and pointless threads/replys like the ones you make on this forum?

I'm gonna tell you're parents!

go mow the lawn

I agree with you. That's why this profanity baning policy is a temporary measure to reduce the amount of profanity on the forum (especially in OT) and to remind people that swearing/cursing are discouraged on the forums.

Our goal is never making the forum 100% profanity free (this is unrealistic), but to keep it to an acceptable level.

The moderators had been granted some more flexibility on this issue now. Therefore you may resume flattering us and bribing us to avoid restrictions for minor profanity/vulgarity. :king:

I'll transer one million US dollars into your bank account if you promise never to ban me no matter what I do.

That's a nice way of putting it.

I don't know if you're talking about me, but I've said that before. Parents need to approve the COPPA thingy before anyone under 13 can join.

I IIRC joined when I was under 13... without asking my parents...:p

I didn't even know about any limit on that.

For example I think those notorious "Uh oh, I see a banning coming this way" or "I give this thread ten minutes until it gets closed" posts are far more annoying and an expression of a "Blockwart" attitude. In fact they are blatant spam. It may be a little different if someone is notifying a newbie of this, but even then it should be left to the mods.

I totally agree on this one. IMO this should be considered more of an offense than a nation bashing post/thread. Behaviour like this is really annoying.

Occasionally a post in a thread that you feel will get locked might be useful if it encourages other posters to stay on topic and so that the thread survives once the mods appear...

I've come to terms with these rules...

...but Floppa PM'd me telling me he was banned for quoting my God damn post.

Now its illegal to quote curses??

Any post you make, quotes and all, is your responsibility.

 typical American PC police overreaction!

I'll not quote any post longer than 1 sentence from now on, because I MIGHT miss something someone might call a profanity or not.....

come on folks, live is tough enough for non-native speakers here.
But essentially you demand that they mod the posts they reply to, too?
