As lefty says, the autocensor is just a starting point.

Not having an all inclusive list puts the onus on people to think before they post!
LLXerxes: THINK before you post! ;)

Oh for the love of....

Just respect the rules people, I consider myself an extremely foul mouthed person and I can obey the no swearing rules. Stop trying to circumvent it and just obey the spirit of the rule already!

I heeded the warnings; you'll notice I've stopped swearing since these rules started.

But I didn't even consider the idea that 'God damn' was a swear...:wow:
Still 'God damn' is still a rather impolite term.

I'm almost sure you can find some other alternatives.

It was only a joke. :mischief:
Did you really think I would swear! :mischief:
Do you know any 11 year olds that swear. :yeah:

I do want to know, because regular words in ones eyes could be swears in anothers.

Just use the "preview post" button and find out for yourself.

Is only English obscenities which are banned?

Can I say <snipped> (my keyboard doesn't do cyrillic)

Moderator Action: NO you can't. We have Russian, Spanish and French members.
You could have left it at asking, you didn't need to post examples. 1 day

Please read the forum rules: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=422889

Only English swearwords would be autocensored but if any others were recognised then they would have the same punishment I expect...

Sometimes we have them start topics of can I post X-subject/material, and thinking they can get away with it, "Just asking, guuys!".

I am 100% with Immortal here!

And besides:
A lack of swearing forces the poster to use better prose to get his point noticed.

:)

Let's show some good manners to TF and the admin - and just follow their guideline.
Keep in mind that a site like this is for all age groups, so please set an example.

Yet almost all age groups seem to have a tendency to already know the words that are being censored...

Knowing the words and using them in polite conversation are two different things, however. :)

(Of course, comparing OT with "polite conversation" is quite a stretch, some days! ;) :D )

When in Thunderfall's house do as he would do there. you want to cuss, flame, troll, and describe all the excentricities of your fellow's geneologies and the defects of their anatomy, go to a live wargamming group.

I rarely swear even when I can... Its just that the a word probably should be acceptable or at least perhaps bum shouldn't be either...

Surely the intent is more important than the words??

Can't you just clamp down on people using swear words at other members? Why ban someone for swearing when it is not actually causing offense to another member?

I am very disappointed at CFC for this course of action. I often post SG comments at this site and another (CDZ). Since I make so many of them (and PBEM spoilers) I find it almost impossible to remember to write in 2 different styles. I sometimes use the f-word and b-word when writing my games up, yet when I come to post I face a BAN if I don't stop myself from saying "Lincon is a <something banned>" or "I told Lizzie to <something banned>".

Can anyone tell me that someone who is old enough to register and read this forum would be in any way offended or corrupted by this? Surely by HIDING these commonly used words from people you are saying "all swearing is Bad", when what you should be saying is "swearing at another person is Bad"??

This reminds me of the anti-drugs campaigns. Telling young people that ALL drugs are bad and ALL need to be punished means that when they realise that SOME are not they forget the message you told them - you have already been proved wrong and no-one believes you anymore.

Annares, your host here is an exceptionally civil man, and has decided to keep and very civil environment in his 'house'.
