The Radeon card bug

I havent got Civ4 yet and was wondering if I was going to cop the Radeon card bug?

Ive got a Radeon 9800XT, am i likely to have problems or is the bug only striking older Radeon cards?

PS I checked the sticky thread at the top of the forum and no one seemed to post saying they where having the problem with 9800XT

I don't know why everyone calls it the radeon bug, I have this same problem with a geforce fx 5200...but maybe the card just isn't good enough. Even though the graphics work sometimes, other times they go away.

I have a 9600 Pro 128 meg Omega 4.9 drivers. Game runs flawless.

Buddy of mne has 9600 XT 128 meg, not sure driver version, but runs flawless.

Sorry, I wish I had a 9800 XT but this series of cards all use very similar drivers. You should be fine.

Ive got a Sapphire Radeon 9500 and it works slowly (although im pretty sure thats because of my 512MB of memory... a bad recomendation by firaxis) but at least it works. Im pretty sure it has more to do with software then hardware. my advice is uninstall and reinstall your videocard drivers (with the latest drivers of course) beforehand, and youll prolly be ok. It takes awhile for Civ4 to install (1.7GB) so you want to do it as few times as possible.

Theres a bunch of threads about uninstalling your drivers, look em up. My advice is dont use one of those cleaner programs, the couple ive tried always missed a few files.

Yes the problem is mainly with the older cards, 9600 and under. Incidently, go for the Omega drivers, not the ones from ATI's site. They seem to be better.

CIV IV works great on my 9600 pro and my x800XL, just follow the instructions on the front civfanatics page if you have problems, very easy fix---- enjoy!

Ive Radeon 9600xt 128mb DVI and I have problems with wonder movies.
Latest Omega drivers (downloaded after install Civ IV)

By the way, I havnt tried the Firaxis fix.

My old Radeon 9200 w/128 MB works great so far, which surprised me. I have read most of the Radeon threads and I wish Firaxis good luck on a fix---there seems to be a modest tendency to have the problem more often on older cards, but its all over the map--even some Nvidia cards seem to have the same problems.

I have a radeon 9800xt with catalyst 5.10 driver (after completely removing the older drivers) and have had no problems at all.
