I find the vote and comments extremely amusing.

Why so many swear to use the buggy II which is no longer even sold in stores, when the improved III hits the stores, is amazing to me.

Going from Civ I SP to Civ II MP capable was a test of theory.
Going from II to III is like improving what worked in theory in a lab, to what works in practical application in the real world.

No, with all the suggestions taken under advisement, the tweaking, the improving; my beloved Civ II disk will finally have the opportunity to cool off.

Anybody else think the Poll and comments humorous ?

Nope. You're really pinning your hopes on Civ3 aren't you?
Ever here of ToT?orSMAC?or CTP?

what about system requirements?

It'll take years to sort thru all the bugs.
MP will be a nightmare for awhile.

wait and see....

People still play chess. You can't improve Civ2.If Civ3 is an "improved civ2" it will fail miserably.

Civ III will be as much a change, as II was a change to I.
Yeah, I have my hopes pinned on it, big time.
What's your point? II is off the shelf, as I wrote.
You best be burning some copies of II if you intend to cling to the past.
I don't mean it was silly of TF to poll.
I just think it's funny that response was so overwhelming to keep II going.

my main problem with civ2 and why i will quickly be done with it isa that i have sense of country and for an earth based game it is absurd to think that another civ can plop a city right in the heart of your territory because you haven't colonized it yet. That is why I will quickly shelve civ2 for civ3. The borders!!

And I know that all you have to do is kill other peoples settlers or take there newfounded cities. But if I play on the world map in Africa and build cities all around the coast before i can get inland only to find some jackass has put two cities on the outskirts of the Sahara give me a break.

Someone find a way to put borders in civ2 and expand the trade a bit and it might be as timeless as some think.

Civ 3 might be the game that we "all are looking for".. it might be an unplayable mess too. The only way to get a real good game.. is for the publisher to stick with refining it over the course of time. That is a REAL rare commodity in the present situation for both good reasons & bad.

In a sense Meier et alia are doing just that, but Civ 3 looks to be enough of a departure from Civ 2 that we will have to just wait & see.

Dog

P.S. Smash, I don't think that TOT is a bad game, esp the Fantasy World version. In many ways .. as a game, it is superior to the original civ premise. The way it works online in IP sucks, but it is only marginally inferior to MGE.
