The Easter Islanders had an as yet undeciphered written language, but I can't remember what it was called. Besides, neither the Iroquois nor the Zulu had one.

As a UU, I'd have a sea-faring canoe. I would grant Mapmaking, because (at least) the Australian Aborigones had them, and I think the Polynesians proper had them too, but they were woven and showed the stars.

I would like to add the Byzantines (though the discussion of whether they really where an indipendand civ is still raging), replace the stupid scandinavians with the Swedes (for reason I've posted earlier, might post them again on this thread) and the Danes. The Danes because of their huge historic importance in Europe and the middle east (started the crusades and everything). Then probably an african civ, the Ethiopians since the have existed just as long as the old runners, they have a distinct culture (some claim that they where the first to accept christianity as a state religion) and where never colonized (in the same fashion as many other african nations). Then the incans to occupy south america. I would replace "America" with, heck, I dunno, but firaxis would never do that anyway. I'ld include the afghans and probably polynesia or some similar ocianian/australasian civ. That leaves me with one remaining civ... hrm, so far

1. Byzantine
2. Sweden
3. Denmark
4. Ethiopia
5. Inca
6. polynesia

though since I took away the rendered useless scands, then I've got two civs... maybe the Netherlands (though Europe is overcrowded)... I like the Kmers... the huns really never had any real statesman ship (unlike the mongols who's kanates lasted up until the 1700 hundreds, some anyway), the slavs?, nah. oh yeah the afghans, that leaves one civ.

- scandinavia
7. Afghanistan.

probably another african civ, the Nigerians( or maybe the early sudan kingdom?)

8. Niger (ia), etc

thats my 2 cents

@ Discovery One
The Easter Islanders used Rongorongo, though it is uncertain as to whether they developed it themselves or invented it after contact with Spain.
The Aborigines are NOT Polynesian or anything close, they are totally different to any other Island peoples.
And yes the Polynesians had woven maps showing where islands were in relation to stars I believe.
@Xen
Need I point out that the Polynesian outrigger regularly crosse what is known in Civ3 as "Ocean".
@Superisis
I am befuddled as to your reason for choosing Afghanistan and I feel that Mali (Having been the largest and most influential African Civ for some time) are more worthy than Niger.

nope, but there is game balence to consider here, if the polynesians had a water transport that could carry at least setlers across all three sea types, it would make the polynesians a bit too good in my opuion...

Unless you are female. The U.S. Women have won 2 out of the last 3 Women's World Cups. ;)

@Stonesfan: So that would make the Mexicans Spain+Aztecs, why would you want that? Personally I think that it's nice to have the more unique civs and, at current, all the South American civs are unique and unseen in the game. [/B]

That's for sure! My last 2 girlfriends have been from Peru and Colombia... and they sure are different! :)

Yeah, I know that the Aborigones aren't actually Polynesian... I just mentioned them because they are from Oceania as well (depending on how you define Oceania, I guess), and because I think that they're pretty cool -- although probably not Civ material. Including them as part of an "Oceania" or "Pacifican" culture might boost the chances of the Polynesians winning...

Rongorongo! I couldn't remember the name. Thanks! I heard that Rongorongo might have been developed from the Spanish, but I don't mind that. If we got rid of Civs because they got their written language from some other culture, we'd be stuck with about five civs: the Olmec, Egypt, China, Sumer, and the Harappan culture.

I've seen that a lot of people want to get rid of us Americans. Might I ask why?

They feel threatend by American support of the Byzantine regime

or mabey it is the fact that we have had far more impact on the modern age that any other country, except mabey the USSR. Wait, I take that back, we have had more impact on the world than the USSR.

Or the many mis-quotes of Dan Quale!   :lol:

Or mabey it is because we saved many a nations butt in WWI and WWII.
USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! BYZANTIUM! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA!

WHOOOOOO! U-S-A and BY-ZAN-TI-UM!

If anyone can give a good argument as to why the United States of America should not be in Civ3, and who would be better fit to replace us, I will gleefully remove them from my game.

There isnt, other then its silly to have them start at 4000 BC, but that cant be help because of how the game is made- there arnt any good reasons to remove the US, other then it would please the the people in forign countries who want to see the US fail for a change

The only reason I don't like the Americans is because I like to have civs who were native to the land they occupied. America probably has people who are a mix of the descendants of all the civilizations featured in civ3, who were an English colony. One may point to Carthage and Phoenicia, but it still feels more aakward because at least Carthage and Phoenicia were on the same general land mass.

never thjought of that...a good point, though I feel that the US and Russias' importance in the modern era sort of forces su the put them both in the game....

And besides, the biggest market for CivIII is American. Actually, if we want to know what the Remaining Civ is then, what is the largest market that is not yet represented in CivIII?

Obviously it cannot be the Byzantine market (sorry Xen, couldn't help myself :D )...

Last time, for PTW I mean, Korea was the last minute, cynically chosen surprise civ. Perhaps it'll be the same this time.
