Ok, so we apparently now know that 6 of the 7 new civs are as follows: Mayas, Incas, Hitties, Sumerians, Dutch, Portuguese

Which leaves us with 1. Many noteworthy civilizations throughout history surely deserve consideration, but there's only spot for 1 of them. Which begs the question, which civilization will be included in the Conquest Expansion?

Here, once again, is my attempt at a poll

I voted for the Polynesians. I think the Souix are likely also. However, my money is on some other civilization no one else has thought of, as was the case (as far as I know) with the Hittites.

Could be other...but then again...

Me too. From what i know of their civ, they accomplished some amzing feats. Regardless though, I think that corner of the globe could use some inhabitants. :)

I voted for the Khmers. Again, as I said in a previous poll, mainly because of this Cambodian girl I know...

Plus Khmer is a pretty cool name.

Since I'm obsessed with the Asian culture, if not the Khmers, then some other Asian culture. Although I would not be upset if it ends up being the Polynesians. Wouldn't be too bad to see the pacific/oceania region represented in the game.

You should of put the Assyrians on that list

Are we possitive it is only 7 civs?

I was a little confused on that

I would like to see Polynesia, Ethiopia, or Ghana added. But seeing as the first two are easy enough to add to the game already it would be nice to see Ghana added. Although the Souix would be nice. Chances are it will be Assyria or Byzantium.

I voted for the Khmer but like I posted in another thread I'm not so sure there are only 7 new civs. I think the Babylonians are replaced by the Sumerians in the original game (they don't even have enough cities to share with eachother). So I think there are 8 new civs and my second choice would be the Polynesians, but I think the Hebrew (Israeli if you like) will make it in.

I don't think they'll replace a civ! And why on earth would they want to replace Babylon, which is one of the best civ in the game?

BTW, I'd also like the Ploynesians in conquests...

Why are the polynesians winning? They barely advanced beyond the stone age!

I'm torn between the Poles and Siamese, but I voted Siamese. There is no one in that area in the game, but it is one of the most populated on earth.

No unfortunate buffer people between the Germans and Russians kind of makes real-world games unrealistic, though. I don't know why they put the Mayans in there. They were long gone before the Spanish came, so they would be mighty unrealistic in an American Conquest scenario.

The seven I would have added:

Dutch
Polish
Portuguese
Assyrians
Abyssinians
Siamese
Incas

Maybe I'd replace one with the Israelis or the Hungarians.

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't the Israelis decend from the Hittites/Same with the Palestinians? We need to differentiate between civilizations and nationalities. Granted, this mistake has already been made (France, America, Spain...) I'd like to see Assyria, however, didn't Persia decend from the Assyrians?

The French and Spanish are decendents of the Gauls...who are an offshoot of Germanic tribes...

I think Ethiopia or Polynesia or the Sioux are the only good choices left.

Also, one needs to distinguish the Ottomans from the Byzantians. The Byzantians are Roman-Greek-Phoenician. The Ottomans are united horse tribes of Arabic decent. The Byzantians were commercial, religious, while the Ottomans were more Militeristic, Commercial. Anyway....

Here are the civs that really need to be added, as they're absence is a large void in the historical representation.

Ethiopians, Phonecians (invented numbers, the alphabet, commercial standards...), Sioux (More advanced than the Iriquois), remove the English and America, and Spain, and the Scandinavians, introduce the Franks, the Iberians, and the Guals, keep the Celts, keep the Native American civs, add the Sioux. Keep the old Arabian and Asian civs, introduce the Phonecians, keep the Greeks and the Romans, introduce the slovakians, change the Germans to the Germanic Tribes. Introduce the Ethiopians, keep the Egyptians, introduce the Hittites and the Philistines, keep the Zulu. Remove the Persians, introduce the Assyrians, keep the Babylonians, and the Sumerians.

That's all that should be in this game :) I may be missing a few of the ancient South East Asian civs and some of the early civs in the Middle East.

In my mind, it's the anciant civs, not the modern nations they gave birth to, which should be the focus of this game.

No offense dude, I'm damn glad you aren't running Firaxis. :D

Why keep the Babylonians, Assyrians, Phoenicians, or Hittites? All were probably(the origin of the Hittites is unknown) part of the Sumerian civilization at one time.

And the game is called "Civilization", not "Tribalization". There was no Iberian Civilization. Or Gallic Civilization. Heck, the Celts were the closest thing to a Gallic civilization, and they had barely advanced beyond tribal politics themselves.

 Stonesfan, I agree with pretty much everything you've said.

My 7 civilizations would've been

Mayas
Incas
Ethiopes
Mali
Poles
Khmers
Indonesians

And perhaps I'd replace either the Khmers or Indonesians with the Siamese, I don't completely understand which one of those was the most significant.

I don't understand why the Polynesians are leading. I put them in the poll because so many people seem to love them, and this poll has at least shown that much. They accomplished some interesting things but I mean, I wouldn't put them past any of the 7 civilizations I've listed above. The fact that Sween32 has made an amazing Polynesian leaderhead already and that somebody made a Polynesian voyaging canoe, makes them all the less necessary.

I voted for Khmers myself.

I personally would like to see an African civ like Ethiopia put in the game. That area is really lacking many civs.

Either the Khmers or Siamese would be good for a SE Asian civ. Personally, I lean towards Siamese because I like the name a bit better. The Siamese also have a pretty nice claim to fame, in that they were never a European colony. The Khmers, of course, have the Angkor Wat and other impressive structures left behind.

I never liked the name "Indonesians" for a civ, because that's just the name that Europeans gave to any people of the area. I know most of the names are "Westernized", but at least most refer to a specific group of people. You could throw a Sumatran civ down there, though.

I don't really understand why the Zulus have always been included over the Abyssinians/Ethiopians. The Zulus were never a civilization, and in fact only existed as any kind of power for a very short time. Conversely, the Abyssinians had a flourishing culture for hundreds of years.

The Songhai/Mali would also be a better African civ than the Zulus.
