The Romans

Portugese is not Portuguese :p And there is no Spanish language..... what you are refering to is Castilian, mechaerik, as any Catalan or Galician will tell you ;)

I am well aware of that. And i was fairly sure i was misspelling Portuguese. However, here in Los Angeles, its mostly called spanish.

Romans speak Latin, which happens to be almost the same as Italian.

About the addiction, consider that all Roman civilizations (Rome & Byzantium) have units with overpowered base strength. That is a big plus to play them. You said you like Roman History, & that may be one of your major reasons to be addicted. The UB's special ability (+25% GP points) is really useful (& kinda cheaty IMO); & if your gameplay is based on expansion by conquest, the leaders' traits (all Roman leaders are imperialistic, btw) will combine favorably with the civ's unique stuff.

In my case, I'm developing a strong preference for the Celts (playing as Brennus), but I wouldn't consider it yet as an addiction. I do like the civ's history, but I rather like better their starting techs, as well as Brennus' traits (Car/Spi). For my part, I rather prefer cultural, score & space race victories, & having a good amount of happiness in your cities from the beginning is a titanic plus.

For my part, I hate to play as the Romans, mainly because they're overglorified in the Western World.

The Romans are cool to play as for sure, and yet, I can't convince myself to do it.

I love playing as Roosevelt too much, and don't care much for URL mode.

I'm a great fan of Pericles and Willem, even though I'm not a fan of Holland's orange!

English is definitely a Germanic language by family (it has Anglo-Saxon as its basis), but of course it's heavily influenced by both French and Latin, in addition to all the other loose grammar and lexis it's stolen from the rest of the world for centuries :D

When first starting civ 4 i had the same thing going as OP:

I like roman history, i think its one of the most interesting times in human civilization.

Eventually i started to enjoy figuring out the game mechanics and moving up in difficulty and I started on different civs with different strategies. But still, sometimes, a nice Roman blowout on noble is a fun thing to do :)

yay Romans!

I always play as the Ottomans my favo color is green and because im turkish I love to play the Ottomans.

I used to play the Romans most of the time, until I came across the Native Americans and their Dog Soldiers were giving my praetorians a kicking, now I'm more inclinded to play different civs & leaders. If I have a preference now it would be the English, Redcoats are very powerful.
