The Scots Should be Added to Civ3 in the New XP?

calgacus, I had kind of glossed over your third post when I first read this thread but now that it comes to it why did you feel the need to do ScotlandVs..... at all?? Surely it was possible to argue the case for Scotland without attacking other Nations?

I would support Scotland being in as a civ but then I would support Holland and the Eastern European countries too. If you want to argue about which civ would get a single available slot on merit (which I don't want to do, nationalistic arguments make me want to heave) then I think Holland with it's colonial past has a pretty strong case.

In game terms I think Western Europe is already well represented, so more objectively an Eastern European civ would be a good addition. This is after we have added the missing African civs of course.

I shall still mod scotland into some solo games but it's because I like the flavour, not the nationalistic chest thumping.

compromise, could we not " flavor" the english civ with uu like the scottish highlander or irish wild geece. this way if a scottish civ is not added their influence can be

Indonesia's population was nothing like that when the Dutch took over control of it (they did little colonization there), and the impact had very little permanence.

You could add alot more to your list, but the Scots have done similar things and the other achievements of the Scots would easily compensate for this gap if it existed (which it doesn't)

The list of foreign rulers of the Netherlands is almost endless. Just because you happen to have independence now, but not at other times, is highly irrelevant. Scotland was a unified and independent (without any long interruption) nation for nearly 9 centuries. The Netherlands certainly can't beat that. (I should add that Holland never managed to get Flanders, so it is not even a unified country today).

This is not nationalist chest thumping. I am trying to discuss civilizations in historical terms I don't think that the Scots should be in the game if it means the Aborigines, the Inca, Mali, the Khmer and the like don't get represented, but what I am arguing against is the contention (made by others frequently before I opened this thread) that European civilizations like the Netherlands, Poland and Hungary deserve a position but the Scots don't. I am merely defending (and it is pretty clear that that's what I'm doing ) the position of Scottish civilization in history.

I have absolutely no intentions of attacking the Poles, the Dutch, the Hungarians or anyone else, but I'm entitled to defend a civilization I believe is treated unfairly on these boards.

If you think that a) Dutch colonial impact was greater than Scottish colonial impact and b) that this outways all other considerations and advantages enjoyed by the Scots elsewhere, then feel free to argue your case...

calgacus, i think most people don't think scotland is unworthy, its just not more worthy than ireland, norway, austria ect.... any nation has a past, hero's villians wars ect... i think from listening to this threads that most people play on a earth like map and theres 25+ european civs and only 2-3 asia, american and african. europe is crowded and the others have wide open spaces

Nice try, mrtn, but insulting other nations and making sweeping statements without backing them up is bad enough. But don't try to escape from your ridiculous position by telling people "to chill it". Either back up your original statements, admit you were wrong or go away. You're just bringing down both the tone and the quality of argument in the thread.

And Scotland did aquire the Kingdoms of England and Ireland in 1603, not that it did us much good.
