The Sid Virgins Try Sid Again (settings TBD)

This start is nice, but really not overpowered IMHO; Dyes is about the worst Lux, after all.
I did play that with Byz, and of course, Dromons rock here as always (note I never exceeded 40% land, this was just a balanced game, not all-out aggression).
But Arch with Byz is a bit like Demi-Sid.
For other CIvs, SEA helps, sure; still, somewhat balanced.

Just roled a couple of starts before seing the doc's save. Think mine looks better. It's english on the requested 60% arch, cold, 4 bilion restles barbs.

Did not take log, wanted to see if was playable and it is.
Met Aztec French and India. Traded some techs now have BW, Masonry, WC.
Warrior is blocking the French,Green boreder is to the NW, don't know where India is yet. Looks like we've soem time to expand, that's why I went for granary after warrior and 2 curaghs.

Looks like at lest 3 other civs are on our continent, wouldn't call this an island:

And the save:

Thanks, DocT!

I don't like the choice of opponents - 3 seafaring + France, but if the map is that good, let's play it.

:thanx:

Edit: or are we playing nero's save? I don't think so, as Heroes is already playing.

Let's decide after Heroes 20. Will be better to compare then.
Agree with Own to start a new tread and play there. We aslo should play either doc's or mine, just to get things going.

The reason why I loved that map was not that it is such a great start - but it just feels fair. Some land, some food, some resources, some strong opponents.

And one thing: If you really want a peaceful early game, with focus on industrial+ wars - you need to be alone. Anything else on Sid is futile.

i like DocT's save A LOT.
thanks :D

so i wont roll some, so lets wait till Heroes posts his 20.
choose then.

also agree on a new thread, but only after we choose a start we are going to stick with...

From Doc T's BC 4000 save.

4000 BC (0):
Settle on place, see a cow, 2 more dyes, and 3 more bgs! Start ... wealth. ;) Worker goes to chop the forest near cow. Science set to writing at min.

3900 BC (2): Change to curragh.

3750 BC (5): Chopped forest becomes another bg. Curragh -> curragh.

3600 BC (8): Roaded, started irrigation.

3500 BC (10): Reach pop 2, and border expands. There are quite a few cows around ...

3450 BC (11): Curragh -> settler.

3350 BC (13): Meet Carthage. They are up bronze working, masonry, and warrior code.

3300 BC (14) IT: Moscow finishes Colossus.

3200 BC (16): Meet Russia. They are up BW, masonry, WC, and CB, same as Carthage.

3050 BC (19): Settler -> curragh. Settler goes to the 4 turn settler factory place.

I guess dot map is not needed ...

It's funny that no cities of France or India can be seen. Although the warrior is holding a choke point, nobody is near there, so I guess he can patrol around for a while.

About which map to pick, I have not much preference.

So do I. Just love the cows.

Man, there are also quite a few cows in nero's save, and we should win no matter whether there is cow or not ...

DocT: 5 cows, one lux with 3 sources, 8 BG's very close, no AI on the same landmass, which is not a small island. But 3 sea opponents.

Nerovats: 3 cows, one wheat, one lux, 3 BG's close, it at least Aztecs are on our landmass.

I don't like GH's being on, cause it will only help the AI.

lurker's comment: Colossus finished in 3300 BC?! How many shields is Colossus worth for an Sid AI?

200 * 40% = 80. They need on average 6 spt to finish it in 14 turns ...

There are at least 3 ai's on our continent. But it does have more rivers. I'll go with te team on this when voted for doc's I'll play mine on my own.
