Mencken Legacy 3.3: Sole Survivor

Wanda's first night as a teenager saw her scared several times by Ghost Amanda. On some nights there are three ghosts wandering around at once; it's a wonder anyone gets any sleep. I wonder if I could put a moat on the property..

She nearly gets the flu stomping on roaches: someone decided they couldn't be bothered putting the trash inside the actual can.

I agree. But I have to pick one. Cowplant milk sounds dangerous, so I choose..the hot tub.

While I tend to stay focused on the house, stuff DOES happen on the street. This wolf is terrorizing kindly old Luis Aspir.

(Well, maybe not so kindly. He does beat up people who use the telescope...)

So, after putting the exercise bike in Barbara's inventory, I decided to give them a pool. Wanda's fun bar could use some help.

..oh. Boy. Looks like the sprinklers have gone out without my notice. Gardening requires more attention in Sims2 than in Sims 1..back then, you knew if flowers needed watering because the interaction only lit up then.

Mencken Legacy 3.3, Continued

Getting rid of the bike prompted Wanda to rediscover the basketball goal. I feel sorry for anyone who overshoots -- it's a loooong way down the other side.

Closer..

Moments before Wanda was being CHASED by the wolf. She seems to have an effect on animals.

Oh, boy. Not this one again.

I'm going to go with...Blend and Send, since the Sporks have failed me twice in a row.

Fighting with opinionated boors is more fun than ignoring them, I say..

Bla bla bla..skills...hm. She didn't need more body points!

Barbara was in a weird Fortune sim mood, so I bought some electronics to make her happy. Wanda found them in short order.

:-/ Nightlife has been out since 2005 and I just discovered one of its object offers creativity skills.

YES! Finally! She was fired...three times, but by god she stuck it out.

Now it's time to declare Wanda the successor and give her her first orders. Wanda...CALL THE EXTERMINATOR!

She managed to fetch a few scholarships for herself; one for grades, one for athletic prowess, and one for being a good dancer.

Needs mechanical and charisma, but that's doable..Wanda will need to boost her own, and then obtain a charisma-training object from the political or legal careers..

Sad that an uncontrollable spouse grew up with a higher aspiration than the controllable sim.

I let Barbara work on her mechanical points after inviting a few friends over. Rolfe, who has been hiding so far, finally made an appearance...and began crying when he saw the leggy cheerleader he missed getting to know at university.

Speaking of which, it's time for Wanda to go!

..but that'll keep until tomorrow. I'm halfway into her uni years.

If only my GF'd let me back on the Sims [she keeps playing it]..Herself practically owning the only computer in the house, i can't really get on much anymore.

I'm seriously looking forward to playing the Sims 2 for the first time in a year.

Mencken Legacy 4.1

It's time for Wanda's uni years, where she will enjoy the fruits of a well-ordered (ordered by me) life after eighteen years of chaos.

Wanda doesn't have much in the way of career ambitions: her lifetime want is to have six grandkids. She did express an interest in learning to make toys, though, and this is how she spent most of her free time.

Not needing friends for careers, she was able to focus on potential mates. There were a lot of beaus of average quality, but none that caught my eye. Mitch Indie's a sim I like playing, but he has brown eyes and I prefer green and grey.

Attagirl.

She also paints quite a bit and practices her mechanical and charisma.

While I don't have her badgering people on the phone, she developed a wide circle of friends in a a realistic way -- spending time with her dorm mates, and then being invited on outings and introduced to new people. I'm actually not INTERESTED in marrying Wanda off, so beyond satisfying ocassional wants for woohoo, I didn't set her up with any one particular person. A red-headed, green-eyed butler caught my attention, but he doesn't show up in the phonebook.

Four years later... (hey, same bus. )

I'm somewhat disappointed that Barbara never turned into a plantsim. I thought it would be funny if that fate befell all my heirs, but at least she won't spend her elderhood passed out from lack of sunlight.

I think this one is slated to bias the 'honest' option, as in the years I've been playing this game (2004 onward), the honest option has only failed once.

Like I said.

Oops. Barbara never finished her self-portrait. I'd better make sure Wanda takes care of that before she shuffles off..

Mmm, pass.

A logic skill? I can force her through Wanda to learn charisma and mechanical, but logic depends on her spending a lot of time playing chess.

Well, go, Roxie!

To help train Roxie's charisma, I'm going to have Wanda go into the legal career and get the award podium.

Not a fan of abusive lawsuits, so I say stick with just the medical costs.

While it's not a lifetime want, I think I'll let Wanda climb the legal ladder for a while.

(This isn't a normal game behavior; I think it's a bug incurred by the fact that I'm playing on a four-year old install and have numerous mods, some of which conflict with one another and cause strange behavior.)

Annnd it didn't matter, anyway.

It just dawned on me that Wanda is getting up there in age. Fixing her up with an elder seems nice: he'll do his job and then die shortly thereafter. So meet Vince Alma...

He turns out to be a butler, meaning he'll come with good skills, and he likes cooking.

Wanda proves to be an exceptional lawyer.

Huh. I didn't expect she'd make it this far.

And her first decision...

I don't like Maxis' legal career, in part because the top rank is so screwy. Does "The Law" have more power than the mayor? When trying to work "The Law" characters into a story, I say they're the district attorney. I much prefer my John Grisham inspired legal career, which took its inspiration from various novels. The top rank there was Senior Partner at a prestigious law firm. I had that in my Sims1 game.

It takes longer than I expected for Wanda to build a relationship with this guy, probably because she's fresh out of college, and he is most decidedly not.

But eventually, the old geezer is seduced.

Spry fellow.

And then...after the engagment...he DISAPPEARS. He doesn't show up in the phone menu, he doesn't show up in the find-a-mate crystal ball, he just vanishes. I spend DAYS trying to find him, and eventually decide -- screw it.

You! You're male. Move in.

If Vincent doesn't want Wanda to sit under the apple tree with anyone but him, he'd better show up again.

(And yes, that's an actual apple tree.)

...and by this point I was tired of playing, being somewhat frustrated by Vincent disappearing, so I saved and call it a night. I'll go ahead and call for names, though. So -- name that Mencken!
