The Six Nations

So one day a few scouts from Onondoga happen upon a sight that frightens them senseless: An Aztec army, conducting military drills near our lands and near the borders of friend Ethiopia. This greatly alarmed us. We had long suspected that war might break out between our Ethiopian friends and the northern Aztecs.

But would Ethiopia indeed be the target? Would it be Sweden to the west? Or would it actually be us, the peace-loving Iroquois peoples?

This question was answered a few turns later when Moctezuma "backstabbed" us, as he implied. Though we did not understand what he meant, for we had never made any pretense of friendship with this psychopath.

Nevertheless, we prepared to defend ourselves against the "psychopath's minions"(a term coined by one of our generals). We were expected to be at a disadvantage, since we got off to a bad start in history. Unusual barb activated resulted in us not expanding very quickly.

After the war was declared we immediately contacted our friends in Ethiopia, asking them if they could perhaps lend a hand. They refused. We tried to see if Sweden would perhaps join, but they would not take any reasonable offer. So we were left alone to fight these aggressors from the north.

We set ourselves in position and joined battle with the enemy. To our suprise, the battle went better than we had expected.

They did not send as big of an army as we had anticipated. It wasn't long before their army shown in the previous screenshot was reduced to look like this.

They only had one archer left in view. As we soon discovered, it was in 'friendly Ethiopian' lands. They had apparently given our enemies the psychos access to their lands. But we did not yet have the technology to exchange open borders with the Ethiopians. So we were forced to retreat, despite having the advantage in numbers. However, shortly after the psycho archer foolishly moved out of Ethiopian territory and we dispatched it with ease.

So things are looking up in this war, despite our military advisor's pessimism. However, we still do not know how many more psychos are waiting beyond the horizon. Only time will tell.

So while not seeing anymore of the psycho army, our forces regroup and heal up. We train a horse archer and send it to scout out the nearest psycho settlement, considering the possibility of a counterattack. We find it to be relatively undefended. However, we still feel that we would like to end the war in favor of building up infrastructure peacefully.

Thus, we finally meet with the ringleader of the psycho race himself. He suggests the following deal.

A hard bargain, but his war of naked aggression has cost us valuable time we could've spent improving our economy, which is now in the shambles. We counter-propose a deal in which we instead receive all of his gold per turn for many years to come, which we hope will buy us enough time to get our economy back on its feet. He accepts, and so this war turned out to be little more than one skirmish at our border.


Peaceful Times

Thus we entered a long era of peaceful development and expansion. We had alot of areas we needed to improve. We only had three cities, for one, which was a situation that needed remedying quickly.

Not long after the war we learned that 'friend Ethiopia' had something against the Swedes to their west. Maybe our friends were jealous about the beautiful music that plays in the Swedish palace? We didn't know. But we did not wish to get involved in another war so soon.

But then we received an offer of friendship from the king of the musical palace himself.

Knowing that 'friend Ethiopia' had just proposed a war against these same people, we were hesitant to accept this. Nevertheless, we wanted the Swedes as our friends. In all honesty, the main reason we accepted was so we could hear their beautiful music more often.

We were afraid we had angered our Ethiopian friends by this announcement. But to our suprise, we discovered that the courts of Ethiopia couldn't care less about our friendship with the Swedes. But it did not go over quite as well with one other special "friend".

Yes, our legends even say that the psycho leader traveled all the way to Onondoga just to protest our friendship with the "musical heathens", as he called them. However, we cared nothing for his opinion on this matter. Our ruling chief at the time supposedly said to Moctezuma:

"Stick it in your psycho ear and get out of our capital!"

During the post-war period we experienced a great deal of economic growth and expansion. It didn't take long for our economy to recover after the war, and we began trading with our newfound resources, allowing us to support an even greater empire. By the end of this session, we had founded two additional settlements and entered the Medieval Era.

The Psycho's Demise

After refusing to help us during our war with the Psychos, the idea of a war with the Psycho Empire became a popular idea in both Sweden and Ethiopia. Sweden was the first to try. They began an attack on Texcoco. The city changed hands several times. However, the war ultimately ended with Texcoco in Swedish hands.

Not long after, the Ethiopians decided to try their hand at a war with the Psychos. About that time, we noticed something going on at Teotihuacan.

Spoiler :

At first we weren't sure if the Psychos were killing each other or if somehow the Ethiopians had managed to attack that quickly.

The latter proved to be true when a few turns later 'friend Ethiopia' captured the city. It wasn't long before the Psycho Empire looked like this.

And yes, on the same turn that Ethiopia made peace Sweden declared war again. It seems that these two have broken the power of the Psycho Empire.

Then, we get a disturbing request from the "King of The East" Harald Bluetooth of Denmark.

Could this have dire consequences for the Western World as we know it?

It's good to finally see another story here.

And I really like the symmetry of the Six Nations five cities, while wondering why I never seem to get a map where I can settle my cities like that.

Yeah, we've been a little short on stories here lately.

I may be the only one here who remembers your Iroquois story way back in the day. It was one of the first stories I ever read here.
