18.0 :wow:
Says underwieght.
Hard to beleive.
I'm not fat or anything, but I'm just suprised with all the junk food I eat.

17.5

Makes sense, considering in the last two years I gained two pounds but grew five inches.

Did a diving test once. If you get disoriented in the dark under water you need to know which way to the surface. Most people are naturally buoyant. They float upwards. A minority have a body density higher than that of water. They sink. I do. Like a stone.
I, too, float like a rock, but whatever is causing it, it's not muscle.

25.0 exactly
Of course I just had to check the 22.5 - 25 option in the poll :mischief:

Regarding how useful the index is:
It is true that it has a major problem that it doesn't take account of muscle/fat ratios. However there is a proven and observable correlation between higher BMIs and the problems associated with obesity.

The link between smoking and lung cancer (surely everybody accepts there is a link?) was only discovered in the same way, by looking at samples of people, seeing who smoked and who didn't and seeing who got lung cancer and who didn't. Obviously not everyone who smokes gets lung cancer, and not everyone who doesn't avoid it.

Similarly not everyone with a high BMI will suffer the health problems associated with obesity, but it is a useful indicator. Obviously if like JohnHSOG and some others you can account for your high BMI by muscle, then you're fine, but if not then it can be a useful way of telling you that your weight may impact your health.

Btw, wow, I'm really amazed how much thinner CFCers are than the general population. Amazing! You guys are going to live a long long time :goodjob:
Or maybe its just that the fatties haven't been voting

25.8 this morning. I guess I have to forget about Mr Beach 2004.

28.6
Though I would definately not say that I'm out of shape or overweight. The BMI does not acount for body shape (stocky as opposed to 'beanpole').

Hovering (obviously not literally) around 29 BMI. Glad to see a series of normal people posting. I can't benchpress a Buick, maybe a bike.

Warning to all ye skinny youngsters:

When I started studying I had a nice index of 21 but ten years down the road I gained over 5 BMI-points, and not exactly because my length has decreased since ;).

Youth. *sigh*. BMI - 29.2.

There was a time when I took being in shape and having all the time in the world to go to the gym for granted. Enjoy it! Since high school ended (16 years ago), I've put on a good 45 lbs since then, and although I have more muscle mass, I am not nearly as defined as I used to be. My waist is also a good 4 inches bigger since then.

Take this test again in 10 years and see how far the mighty have fallen.

My 2 cents.

6ft2 225lbs BMI is 28.9.
When first joined a gym 4 years ago my BMI was 22. Its bizarre but when I was at 22 people would ocassionally say to me that I could stand putting on some weight. Now that I am actually overweight people no longer comment.
The thing about carrying the extra weight I don't like is my knees and ankles creak quite a bit more than they used to. The good thing is I don't have problems working above my head ie. on the car , putting up wall paper, painting cielings anymore. Increased upper body strength means I can do those things with precision and without getting tired or exasperated half way through.
I think I will keep my weight as is until I'm in the 40-50 age bracket then I think I will slim down to 200 perhaps lighter to take some pressure off my legs as I get older.

Don't be so sure. BMI under 19 (or 20, or 18.5, depending on who you ask) is suppposed to correlate with early death.

21,9

But well, this is really veeeeeery simplistic. Doesn't count the frame, nor which part of your weight is from fat and which one is from muscles...
