The Tetris Effect or When Games Get Stuck In Your Head

When I was on a serious Skyrim kick, I was about to make a somewhat risky decision, and I figured I'd just save first and load again if things didn't work out.

At that point I decided to stop playing Skyrim for a while.

That is a dangerous habit. I remember when I was a teen playing earlier Civs I'd save and reload if I didn't win a battle. Turns out you can conquer the world with surprisingly few units if you cheat the rules of probability!

I imagine LAVs and other armoured vehicles rolling down the street. I'm not complaining.

Played Hitman Blood money, saw a clown, reached to my pocket for my fiberwire. . .

Played Timesplitters Future Perfect, saw a snowman, reached for my flamethrower.

Played the Mass Effect games, got into an argument with my boss, headbutting actually occured to me.

And one that wasn't me, though I was partly responsible for. I got my friend hooked on Rainbow Six Vegas 2. Right after the first day playing, aytime he saw something on TV or IRL that resembled the game, he caughthimself thinking or remarking about the experience earned. For example, in one movie, a guy was swinging on a rope when he got shot off. My friend said, "Marksman Point!"

I started my gaming career with a bout of Freeciv. After a week I played it in my dreams too. Once I woke up to the pressing need to urinate, and thought "do I have to go to the lavatory myself? Can't I send some other unit there?". Once I spilled coffee on the floor and hastily wiped it off. Little later I passed the place, and my first thought on seeing the coffee on the floor was that it's impossible, since I already cleaned it up. (The point here is that cleaning up something with workers (engineers in freeciv) is all-or-nothing).

After GTA: Sometimes when I saw cars passing by, my first thought was to open the door, kick the driver, pull him out and say "I need this vehicle".

I have been seeing power ratings or years instead of masses in the lab recently. Like seeing 0.1066 g and thinking "Hastings!"

Dreaming about my glorious empire thanks to DH, EUIII, Civ, V2, CKII... When someone says Poland or Bohemia I think of a blob, Minecraft...I sometimes wonder how awesome it would be if everything was a square and if I could punch threw rock.

Please don't try and punch rock. That's very irresponsible.

Punch trees first.

The other day I was talking to someone else about ... I don't know, transportation problems? And I came up with a rather strange solution involving propulsion gel and vehicle-sized portals. They were confused.

Thanks to Tony Hawk's Pro Skater I can only really see outdoor spaces and public buildings in terms of skatable lines.
