I read it. I noticed that the question was about sports while your answer was about baseball, but you are entitled to indulge your passions.

the NFL and NBA had the same broad historical trajectories, but they developed in the context of a fully developed and extremely popular MLB and after the Federal Baseball League v National League decision, meaning the possibility of a pro/rel system being entertained was significantly less likely, and moreover it was far easier for them to shut down any competition that did spring up. The objectives of the AFL and ABA were to replace outright or at least earn franchises in the NFL and NBA respectively, whereas leagues like American League and Federal League were trying to earn recognition as equivalent-but-distinct Major Leagues.
