the village has given you a tech

I must have been hallucinating... I'm sure the only time I ever got all 7 religions was when I popped a hut and founded buddhism...

I hate getting maps. I reload the game and try to get a good tech or a Worker.

If I get a Settler, I reload the game. I don't want negative gold early on and early expansion is just suicide in technology. I prefer building my first city first and having at least 1 wonder.

I also hate being given gold or barbarians

Maps from goodie are OK (in principle). I just hate how they implement it. There are so many unrevealed tiles. And for some reasons many of these tiles contain resources. It turns out most of the time I still have to send my unit over there to reveal those tiles.

And those "sea maps" are just pure crxp. I am so surprised after two expansions and many patches they still don't change it. Not just those maps are basically useless most of the time, they are unrealistic. Tell me how some barbarians in 3000BC know anything 5000 miles away from the coast and describe it to you. From the tech perspective they need to know fishing, sailing, compass, astronomy, paper ..... to do that. But if they really know all these techs I guess they shouldn't be living in some dirty huts. As far as I know they can't even build a fishing boat.

anyway a tech for free is really a HUGE advantage in high difficulty levels, sometimes i get two or three techs for free while exploring, then i prefer to start a new game because i feel i have a very unfair advantage, they should remove getting a tech from huts, the same they did with getting a settler o a city.

You can still get a settler, it just doesn't hapen very often.

you cannot get settlers or workers even at Noble, folks. check CIV4HandicapInfos.xml in the Assets/XML/Gameinfo folder if you don't believe me.

here's the relevant part quoted from BtS, which is after all the forum that we're in:

at Warlord and below you do have a chance for a worker or a settler. seriously, go check the file if you don't believe me. if yours says different check the date. it'll be more recent than the other files, because you changed it. i forgot to note what it was while i had explorer open and CBA to check it now. but i'll check it against someone's who doesn't match if you want to duke it out ;)

That was exactly the list I was referring to in one of the former posts. Anyway, KMad, you're not crazy, the founding pop of the first city cannot grant techs.

Luckiest pop I've had? Online FFA, BW and then IW from two huts - as Romans with Iron in my BFC - those two huts cost two major civilizations lives (Celtia and Egypt, funnily enough)

I once got Nuclear Fission from a hut. The AI and myself never visited a certain island. And i think i got knowledge of the island from map trading. Also the hut was protected by a single barb unit.

I think this was Vanilla CIV4 a long time ago. Wish i kept a printscreen.
