Just a question, need an answer, so I thought I'd come to you guys:

IF France had won the war of the spanish succession, would France have united with Spain as one nation?

Probably not. You may have got one king ruling over two countries, but that would be personal, they wouldn't have joined the countries.

According to some points of view, France did win the War of the Spanish Succession. After all, they did get their major aim, a Bourbon king of Spain.

That shouldn't have been an issue, since Philip V wasn't the heir to the throne of France.

No, France tries ( and suceded ) to put Phillip of D'Anjou--Louis's XIV Grandson on they throne, Louis's Heir was his great grandson, 5 year old Louis XV so it was 2 differant branches of the Bourbon house

The only person to win the War of the Spanish Succession was England: the new arbiter on the Continent, a new empire being carved out of the wreckage of the Spanish one, and naval domination. That, and they got Gibraltar and Minorca. Any possible French gain by having a Bourbon on the Spanish throne was negated by the fact that Philip and Louis weren't exactly best friends - not long after Louis died, the Spanish would try (and fail) to fight the War of the Quadruple Alliance against France and Britain in 1718-20.

Now that that's over: probably not, unless there was some Habsburg-like inbreeding in the House of Bourbon (or all of the others were mysteriously killed...).
