An interesting concept came to mind as I was playing one of my games today. It came to me as I entered the last enemy city, ending their reign on earth. There was a battleship in the city as I entered, which is when I got a brainstorm.

My thought is...if a civ's (military) units aren't inside their cities when their last city falls, perhaps they shouldn't just disappear, but become a hidden nationality instead? Lets say you were a battleship commander, and you LOVE to fight (hehe). If your country fell, it wouldn't stop you wouldn't it? You'd want to fight to the death. ;)

So perhaps the "left-overs" from a fallen civ could become "barbaric"? Your thoughts? ;)

Or perhaps other ideas (they might have been mentioned I guess):
-become guerrilla fighters (with the hidden unit)
-ships, tanks, horses could pass to the conqueror and be added to the conquiering army...
-join another civ that is enemy to the conquering civ, as a volunteer army (like the Polish did in Britain during WW2)

The guerrillas in Civ 2 were sometimes a pain to fight but at the same time I must say I miss them in Civ 3.
