Everybody knows that England, United Kingdom, Great Britain, British Empire whatever you want to call them are all the same in the sense that their capital is London and their motherland is England.

Thank you! :D And dont forget they all speak the same language! :D

Is there a Celtic civ? Scots and Welsh would belong to the Celts, not the English/empire of the sasenachs. :)

I suggest we petition Firaxis to rename England, the "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, defenders of the faith that we choose, rulers of France and Spain and others for certain suitable periods, counters of three and up to three, singers of Bono and players of fiddles, land of men who wear kilts and women who wear pants, eaters of fish n' chips, and possessors of the holy grail and discoverer of things that fall from trees."

Suitable?

Haha, superb huserib, but in all seriousness, its just for practicalities sake its England.

In Civ terms, 'England' is just a simplified version of Great Britain, which is understandable once you consider the fact that England makes up between 80 and 85 percent of the British population.

America began as thirteen colonies on the Atlantic coast of North America. It has since spread west all the way to the Pacific, conquering many Native American tribes in its wake. If that's not an Empire (and if America's current global hegemony, with bases all across the world, is not something of an informal world empire) I don't know what is.

Agreed.

Everybody who is uneducated thinks that England, United Kingdom, Great Britain, British Empire whatever you want to call them are all the same in the sense that their capital is London and their motherland is England.

Fixed. Shame on firaxis for the dumbing down of history!

Guys chill out most of those civilizations will most likley be added on in an expansion or something like that.

and seriously you take mongols before the vikings? Comon the vikings were awsome compared to them (Born in sweden here) I would rather have the vikings in the game

or the Sweden cause dont forget sweden was once upon a time a great and huge nation in europe!

Dude i know there was a diffrence duhu im just saying you can say its the same thing :p

No you can't... It is absolutely no different from calling the USA, California. The United Kingdom was created as a union of equals and constitutionally, if you are willing to call it England because 'it's the same thing', then you must also accept that Britain can also be called Scotland. Which it can't, and it isn't.

Ahahaha, come say that in Glasgow and I'll bet you, you get stabbed.

How on earth is it any more practical to say 'England' than Britain'. This shouldn't be hard at all.

It is actually quite insulting really. My grandfather was shot in the head in North Africa fighting to defend his country from tyranny, but it's okay to ignore a huge part of that history, and to ride roughshod over him and millions of others like him who contributed to this country not only in war, but also in peace, simply because it is a 'simplified' version of Great Britain. Can you imagine the outcry if Greece were included in the Ottoman civ for reasons of 'simplicity'?

Everybody knows nothing of the sort. ;)

I don't think anyone is arguing that England should get two civilisations. They are saying that England should be replaced with Britain. Which would make far more sense, historically, than the current situation in Civ.

It is said that 1 in 200 men are directly descended from Genghis Khan http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/gnxp/2010/08/1-in-200-men-direct-descendants-of-genghis-khan/ because not only were the Mongols murderers and thieves, they were also notorious rapists.

Genghis Khan made Hitler look like Mickey Mouse. The guy was pure evil, as evil as they come.

That article concludes he was one of the less evil warlords. He simply "had the goods" is why he and his family had a huge reproductive advantage. If you werent in direct line with genghis khan you couldnt rule diddly in that area for an entire era, so his descendants were pretty popular with the ladies.

edit: and for everyone else, you can rename your empire what ever you want. Its ok, relax.

The Mongol empire was a whole lot more than empty landmass or raging murdering hordes. World history is re-evaluating their significance as they have been seriously underrated.

Modders will add all these civs in time.

Well, for a start, the leader Firaxis have Chosen was Queen of England almost 200 years before Great Britain even existed.

Without wanting to be insulting, I'm unable to see how how your grandfather is related to this? If it makes a difference then my grandfather fought tyranny in the Korean War, he wasn't killed I'm thankful to say. But all thats irrelevant, we're talking about a game here, and if it was any other leader I'd be inclined to argue for a Great British civ. But it isn't. So England is fine.

For England != British, you should see Britain as England + puppet states like Scotland, or do you think Scotland had a big say in the imperial decision taking?

As for the Mongolians, they started as a destructive force of barbarians, but eventually also founded several cities and became more cultured through time.

But there's always going to be civ's missing, maybe nice for an expansion.

Like I said in my first point, England is mentioned 4 times in the "England" section, and Great Britain is mentioned 11 times.

England <> Great Britain. The worst part of it is, England basically gave nothing culturally to Great Britain, or the world. If they've left out the mongols because of that then I see no reason to include England by the same measure.
