The worlds two largest EVER empires not in game??

The respective intelligence levels of the Scots and English are clear for all to see in this thread.

It's really no wonder they failed to conquer us even with 10x greater numbers.

Jeez Eco the Dolphin I know that! I still think it would be cute just as an aside feature (maybe a mod etc) While Civ is not a historical simulator it is inspired by history and so i don't think its unreasonable to find it more appropriate that current modern nation states that aren't really civilisations might not be more suitable formed as a later incarnation of a proper civilisation.

But yeah its probably suited more to a historical mod.

My point is just that historical or not, theres no reason the developers should cause ahistorical offence through clumsy error :)

Why would we need to conquer you when it's also clear from this thread that most of the world thinks we already have?

Loads of Americans celebrate Irish and Scottish ancestry... most of them are proud and certainly arent as ignorant as some Americans are with their 'its all England' remarks.

God bless little englanders...

and

This.

For starters, and maybe learn something useful. It's just a fact that Scotland basically put the Great in Britain, any historian with his salt will tell you the same thing. The English were basically about a step up from full-blown barbarism before the union. We taught them everything they know, and chances are there is a lot more Scotland in you than you recognise.

"We look to Scotland for all our ideas of civilisation"

- Voltaire

Nobody ever said that about England. :D

Seriously... Spain and Mongolia. They were ruling most of the world in their respective eras. 300 million and some still speak Spanish, write in Spanish, etc.

England/GB debate aside (sorry it's mostly semantic), where are Spain/Mongolia?

I am going to propose some radical stuff: -France, + Spain ,-Iroquois + Mongolia , - Aztecs + Maya

I think that sets things about right.

I've read 'How the Scots Invented the Modern World' and I must say it's rather fantastic. It explains and illustrates many things, I had no idea Scots were so instrumental in running and expanding the British Empire until I read that book. It really does describe how Scotland has had one of the biggest impacts on western civilisation compared to any nation, indeed it does make Scotland out to have been an equal player to England (not economically of course, despite Adam Smith) and greater than England in some respects.

Yep you only have to visit Edinburgh and its grand buildings to know that Scots bourgeoisie/capitalists were among the most fervent British Unionists and Imperialists during the time of (ugh) Empire...

As usual the real picture is a lot murkier in politics and culture! I blame the developers for being clumsy in there insensitivity of city names/ with the English civ. A simple correction to make though really...

It only gets offensive when idiots defend it because they think one people is x superior anyway? What a fascist little attitude that is... as usual espoused by the ignorant.

All we ever wanted was a bit of recognition. Considering what Firaxis has done in previous games (Churchill and Victoria as "England), they really wouldn't have been doing anybody a disservice by changing "England" to "Britain" this time around.

There are a mutlitude of advances to humanity that are frankly, down to Scots. And the English are claiming them as their own, and even little stuff like Firaxis making it the "English Empire" just helps to spread the ignorance and rewrite history.

-France? LOL. Ok I admit Spain should probably be in there, but not at the expense of France lol. Or maybe have the Moors instead, that's spain right? (sorry it's mostly semantic).

Eh, frankly I think France is a lot less important than people take it for. How many people speak French today? How many people speak Spanish today? Nuff said.

Hey, fair enough have some national recognition but don't demonise us. There's not one single of my fellow countrymen I know, who doesn't call themselves "British" as opposed to "English". The only time you'll ever see English flag waving is when there's a footie match on.

That's probably not the best criteria to be judging 'importance' (whatever that is anyway) by. ;)

There were more Union Flags flying in Englands WC South Africa games than I could count... but I haven't seen that very much.

I certainly don't think Britain should be in Civ really... I mean it could feasibly (a Scottish highlander unique unit, and an English Man o' War etc) but really I'd rather see the Scots as a City State/Minor Nation and or as a civ to play (suitable in a mod rather than the actual game i think.)

The French and Spanish i think are obvious civilisations that should be featured in the game! I certainly think the Mongolians should be too. Meh it'll be up to us modders!

YEAH! Who else can we insult in this thread?

Germans, eh? Pffft. What did they ever do?

Exactly. Comparatively rarely the St. George's Cross. And St. George's day is barely celebrated.
