I've never used ironclads, explorers and chariots.

Musketmen are definitly useful if you're fighting a war at that time and want a slight edge over your opponent. I don't see why people complain so much about them.

Never had a use for chariots. Like musketmen they also have a very small time window. But at the start of the game when chariots are available, the choice of war or peace is down to the player. I've never had an AI declare war on me that early on in the game.

But I find musketmen come around the time that I'm needing them. medival war and so on.

chariots can be useful if some barbs are making trouble, and you don't have horse archers yet. The ironclad is very slow but good at bombarding or blockading enemy cities.

But Explorers are really bad.

people complain because although themselves are good but to reach them you cant upgrade units and must build them and by the time you built a decent army of musketmen they are already outdated by grenadiers
there 9 strength fortify bonus, aand the walls and castles dont appply to them are sort of useless to build unless your building maybe a few for defense

i would rather have them for longer period of time as it is rather difficult to construct an army of musketmen...b

musketmen were long for a couple of hundred years this should change
