Playing on regent as the chinese (civ conquest 1.22). I'm on a contintent with 3 other civs: Americans, Japanese, and Byzantines. What I don't get is that I'm in the ancient age, Americans declare war on me, I bring in the Japanese and Byzantine against the Americans with a military alliance, 2 turns later Byzantine signs a military alliance with theAmericans against me. 1 turn after that the Japanese signs one with the Americans against me. Both of them broke the agreement. Now does that make sense to anyone?

Then the AI should know better and not to sign any alliance with a civ which it regards as weak. This should be something easy to implement: "if playerciv is weak, then do not sign military alliances".

They got paid off. The AI has a price for almost everything; if the price is met, they make the deal, even if it's not in their best interest.

Probably, so try to ask them to ally again. Most likely they would. But, from what I read, if AIs broke so many alliance deal. the other AI wont trust him anymore, and more likely would break any deal with him.
Some note:
@daharryone : were u the only one in ancient? If everybody in ancient, how weak u could be compare to others in regent mode? most likely not much different. Also, "the rep. hit", had u ever just broke any deal ?
